Dog Friendly Northumberland
Race along sandy beaches, paddle in the sea, explore woodlands, trot alongside Hadrian’s Wall and curl up in a dog friendly pub with the whole family – Northumberland really is your dog’s idea of paradise.
For many dog owners, the prospect of leaving their dog in kennels whilst they go on holiday can be daunting. Rest assured, your furry friend will receive a warm Northumbrian welcome from numerous accommodation providers and attractions so there is no need for them to stay at home, including stays at Haggerston Castle Holiday Park and Whittle Dene Reservoir House, as well as exploring the National Trust’s gardens and woodland walks at Wallington, breathtaking coastal routes, as well as walkways and forts on Hadrian’s Wall.
With more than 30 miles of beaches, the Northumberland Coast is simply spectacular. You will be pleased to know that a large proportion of this is dog friendly, however seasonal restrictions are put in place on some Northumberland beaches, so please do check when planning your visit.
A holiday with your dog wouldn’t be complete without lots of long walks in the fresh country air. Northumberland National Park offers wild and rugged beauty combined with dramatic views, as well as a range of circular walks – your dog won’t want to go home!
Castles, Roman forts, country houses, museums; there is so much to see in Northumberland with your pets. At some attractions, dogs are welcome in the grounds, but may not be allowed in the property. Please check restrictions with the individual attraction before planning your visit, to ensure you and your canine companion enjoy a perfect holiday.
After all that exploring you will be ready to put your feet up with some hearty Northumberland produce and perhaps a glass or two of local ale. Dogs are welcome in many cafes and pubs throughout the county.
To ensure that everyone enjoys Northumberland, please clean up after your dog and keep your dog on lead in protected landscapes and around livestock.
