Indoor attractions in Northumberland

Save it for a rainy day
The hustle and bustle of the Northumbrian spirit is not lost on its indoor attractions. Indulge in some retail therapy, immerse yourself in the county's history with amazing museums, and enjoy some delicious local food and drink.

Whatever the weather...

Northumberland has more than its fair share of things to do indoors. You can admire fascinating artefacts at some of the best museums in the area, browse the bookshelves of antiquarian bookshops, or take in a show at England’s most northerly theatre.

There are stately homes and heritage sites that have stunning historic buildings, landscapes and gardens to explore, or if you are feeling energetic you could make for a leisure centre where the kids can have a splashing good time. Pay a visit to one of Northumberland’s many castles, or go on a foodie adventure.

From exploring the magnificent state rooms at Alnwick Castle on a rainy day, experiencing what life was like in Ad Gefrin’s anglo saxon great hall immersive experience, to meeting friendly and furry creatures of all sizes at White House Farm and learning about the daring sea rescues undertaken by local heroine Grace Darling at the RLNI museum, there really is something here in Northumberland for everyone.
