Wednesday 30 July 2025 | 9.30am - 4pm | The Cheviot, Wooler
This is a fantastic hike up The Hen Hole which is a series of waterfalls on the west side of Northumberland's highest peak which offers lots of pools to take dip in if you fancy it! We will have lunch by the last waterfall and then climb to Auchope Cairn, where will then pick up The Pennine Way to the Cheviot summit cairn for the obligatory photo! We will return via Auchope Cairn to the mountain refuge hut on the border ridge for crème brulee and the story of the WW2 plane crash on Cheviot before returning to Mounthooly.
A two course lunch prepared over a wood fired stove is included, along with further refreshments back at the van later. I would arrange dietary and allergy requirements in advance by email. All diets catered for.
This expedition will only take place with a minimum of 4 guests. The maximum group size would be 8.
The meeting place would be 09.30 at Hethpool car park in the College Valley. We would then drive (in one/two vehicles) along the private valley to Mounthooly where we will park.
