Join your guide, Ragnar Lundgren as he takes you on the journey of the real Uhtred the Bold who defended his home of Bebbanburg and managed to climb the ladder of power where his allies were both Vikings and the King of England.
On this tour you will learn about the start of England’s Viking era and its end and we shall compare the fantasy of the famous Last Kingdom to the real history. Find out about a battle scene that was filmed in the area and become Queen or King of the North upon the Wessex Throne in the King’s Hall of Bebbanburg.

Important things to know about the tour:
– The tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 30mins
– Ragnar will then be available for 30 minutes to crown you Queen or King of Bebbanburg
– We visit 4 parts of the castle grounds outside and 1 part of the castle inside (weather dependent) Please ensure sensible footwear is worn and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions
– To enable you to get the most out of the tour, we recommend that you don’t visit the State Rooms of the castle before the tour begins
– Crownings will be done inside the King’s Hall off-peak season. During peak season (May -Sept), crownings will be done on the stone throne outside the Keep
– Dogs can join most of the tour but are not allowed inside the King’s Hall for the crownings
– When you approach admissions with your ticket, you will be provided with a lanyard to show you are attending this private event so please keep this visible at all times. Please ensure that you hand it back to Ragnar or a Bamburgh Castle staff member when the tour has finished
Who is the Tour for:
The tour is aimed at teenagers and adults that are fans of the Netflix series ‘The Last Kingdom’, the book series ‘The Saxon Stories’ by Bernard Cornwell.
Although the tour touches on ‘The Last Kingdom’, you do not need to have watched the series to enjoy the tour. The tour covers a vast array of Anglo-Saxon and Viking history which would appeal to any curious mind!
Accessibility:
Some of the terrain outdoors is uneven/steep. Unfortunately, this tour would not be suitable for those with limited mobility. This is an outdoor tour and we recommend checking the weather forecast on the day. A tour may be cancelled under extreme weather conditions that would make the site unsafe.

All Uhtred of Bebbanburg Tours will start at 11:30am. Tours will start promptly at the time mentioned.
