Friday 4 October 2024 | 7.30pm - 10pm | Coquetdale Music Trust
The Northumbrian Pipers Society is delighted to welcome the Young Pipers Group, Ruth Brown, Camus, and Jez Lowe to play at the NPS annual concert 2024.
We’re thrilled to have the YPG join our lineup again, represented by senior players Sophie Fraser, Tilly Lamb and Sasha Lamb. YPG, led by Richard Johnstone, supports young pipers with tuition, workshops and performance opportunities, and has produced many fine pipers over the years.
Northumbrian fiddle player Ruth Brown grew up in Redesdale, surrounded by traditional music. Heavily influenced by Northumbrian ceilidh and fiddle music, as well as the Northumbrian Piping tradition, Ruth performs and teaches, leads ceilidhs, and participates in fiddle bands, dance groups, workshops, and festivals, as well as managing a forest school nursery. We're delighted she's performing - and also MC-ing - at the NPS concert, promising a lively evening, as those who’ve seen her at recent Rothbury Festival Mart concerts will know!
North meets South with Cambridge-based folk ensemble Camus, featuring Andrew Burn, Brian Cleary, Edric Ellis, Greg Smith and David Somerville. The band combines its extensive Northumbrian repertoire with an exciting mix of other traditions including Shetland, Irish, Galician, bluegrass and their own tunes and songs. We’re delighted to be welcoming them as a band to Coquetdale!
Jez is one of the folk scene’s most outstanding singer-songwriters, known for his compelling folk songs rooted in the stories and heritage of his native North East. His musicianship, flair and authenticity resonate deeply with listeners. Jez has also published four novels, and may well be the country’s busiest touring musician, so we’re chuffed to bits that he has squeezed us into his schedule!
