The Pottery
Errington Reay Pottery has been a family run business for over 145 years, producing quality garden pottery that is loved by generations. It is the last remaining salt-glazed pottery of its kind in Britain. We continue to handmake products that stand the test of time in both style and durability, giving our customers garden pottery and one-of-a-kind ceramic décor to be cherished for many years to come. Visit our large on-site shop for a wide variety of products at great prices, see our traditional kiln in use and learn about the history and heritage of the pottery in our visitors’ centre.
The History
Established in 1878 by Robert Errington and Charles Reay, the pottery at Bardon Mill remains at the very heart of village life. Sitting on the site of the once water-powered woollen mill, life began for the pottery producing salt-glazed sanitary ware and drainage pipes. With the introduction of plastic into this industry the pottery evolved continuing to use the traditional techniques of its founding families to create its world-famous salt-glazed garden pottery. Instantly recognisable for its distinctive style and quality craftmanship, our pots continue to enjoy pride of place in gardens within the UK and abroad.
