Northumberland’s sweeping landscapes make for inspiring artwork and photography, and there are so many striking images of our landscapes, people and way of life to choose from. These can be viewed and purchased from our many gift shops,
galleries and exhibitions across the county.
For a taste of culture, creativity and countryside, pay a visit to Kirharle Courtyard, the birthplace of
Capability Brown and home to many artists and craft makers who produce and sell from this rural hub.
Kirkharle offers everything from contemporary to classical, whether it is an artisan gift, hand-crafted jewellery, vintage clothing or a wide variety of gifts, prints, drawings and sculptures. After all that
shopping, a well-deserved lunch or afternoon cream tea in the Kirkharle Coffee Shop is a must.
If it’s something more specific you’re after, many of our artists are represented through Network, an organisation with more than 180 members across the county. These artists embody a wide range of disciplines including painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, textiles, calligraphy, paper making, jewellery, graphic design, bookbinding, glassmaking and installation pieces.
In June, July and December Network artists host the annual Art Tour, giving visitors a chance to sneak a look into the lives, homes and studios of some amazing artists, perhaps to buy a unique piece of artwork direct from the maker.
