29 Nov - 1 Dec 2024 | Various timesTime | Lady Waterford Hall, Ford TD15 2QG
Lady Waterford Hall in Ford is hosting special performances of seasonal works by Charles Dickens in late November/early December. Award-winning actor James Swanton brings these wonderful stories to life in incredible one-man shows. The Victorian village of Ford makes a wonderfully atmospheric setting for these shows.
A Christmas Carol is one of the most magical stories ever written, a true masterpiece by Charles Dickens. Beneath the glint of a traditional Christmas tree, encounter Ebenezer Scrooge as he embarks on his supernatural journey with the Ghosts of ‘Christmas Past’, ‘Present’ and ‘Yet-To-Come’. James Swanton is doing three mesmerising performances of A Christmas Carol. Performances of A Christmas Carol run on Friday 29th November at 19:00, Saturday 30th at 14:00 and Sunday 1st December, at 14:00.
The Chimes, written by Dickens a year after the publication of A Christmas Carol, similarly explores themes of social injustice, human struggle, and the possibility of redemption through compassion and understanding. This darker story revolves around a ticket-porter living in poverty. As the New Year approaches, his reflections on his troubles are intertwined with the tolling of the bells, which symbolize hope and despair. There is only one performance of The Chimes on Saturday 30th November at 19:00.
Doors open 45 minutes before the performance and seasonal refreshments will be available.
Adult tickets are £12
Children's tickets (under 16 year) are £8. Please note: these performances are not suitable for children under 10.
