Mills have been grinding locally-grown wheat, barley and oats on this site at
Ford & Etal Estates for over 700 years. Today the huge waterwheel still powers a series of cogs and wheels that drive the massive mill stones. In this working heritage museum you can see the simple beauty of the mechanisation, little changed since Roman times and demonstrations of the hoist are a huge hit with children. Learn all about hydropower, how flour is produced, the history of the mill and of the people who worked here. Entrance tickets can be booked online in advance or you can pay on the day, no booking is required. Last admissions are one hour before the mill closes.
There is a gift shop on site where you can buy freshly ground flour and an independently run café next door.
