Great bungalow with wonderful leisure facilities

ccooper8901, Colchester, United Kingdom
We stayed in Murrayfield on July 28 for 2 weeks. It was really comfortable and spacious. A big bonus was the really well equipped gym and swimming pool. These were never too busy (apart from the jacuzzi, but then we had our own hot tub anyway!). We vowed to continue the fitness regime on our return. In terms of the surrounding area, Northumberland was beautiful and lots of nearby sights to see. As others have said the local curry house was definitely a notch above the usual. Best tea (amazing sandwiches, fresh bread and cakes) to be had at the Old Stables in Alnwick, but only open Wednesday - Saturday so plan accordingly. Best shop - Barter Books in Alnwick (2nd hand bookshop for all the family). Most surprising trip: the rugged walk to Dunstanburgh Castle where we saw dolphins from the battlements and followed this up with really tasty kippers at Piper's Pitch mobile catering van by the tourist office car park!

DOG FRIENDLY LODGE

Dave R, Dundee, United Kingdom
Had a week here with grandchildren(aged 5 and 1), son and dog. The kids loved the playing field outside the back door, and the swimming pool, which was a one minute walk. The lodge was comfortable, and accommodated us all with space to spare. Would definitely come back

Melrose Cottage cosy and comfortable.

neilgem2017, Edinburgh, United Kingdom
We stayed at Melrose cottage at the start of July, I was a little anxious as my husband was unable to come with us due to work commitments, so it was just me and my two children ages 5 and 9. Thankfully, the place is wonderful for kids and feels warm, friendly and for me as a mum on my own very safe. The cottage itself is comfortable and peaceful with the added option of kids TV for emergency rainy days, however the best thing about Townfoot is the location. The stables were a stone’s throw away so it was lovely for the kids to see the horses being led to their fields. This prompted my daughter to agree to an ‘own your pony day’ for one of our holiday days and she had a ball. It is a 2 min drive to the pool and Secret Spa and 10 mins to the beach. The beach at Almouth was one of the best we found for the kids, the beaches in Northumberland are vast and empty ,which is just wonderful but Almouth was just that bit nearer to amenities so we could easily stroll into the town for lunch/coffee/ice cream which was just lovely. The play area was clean and spacious and a highlight for my kids was the pool! It is super warm, clean and everyone is friendly. The whole complex has a family community feel and my children made new friends every day. We are desperate to come back and this time visit Alnwick castle (10-15min away, less even) and a few more of the local attractions such as Chillingham castle/Berwick/Bamburgh/Lindisfarne all very near . All in all we had a lovely relaxing week and were made to feel very welcome, thank you so much and see you soon.

Fantastic stay at village farm cottages.

We stayed in the Murrayfield last week. The accommodation is first rate, it was very homely, the art work was beautiful. Would like to come back just to have an excuse to use the log burner. The views from the garden and hot tub are lovely. It was great to have WiFi and having Sky TV was a bonus, it meant that we got to watch the season final of 'Game of Thrones'. Having access to the swimming pool and games room was great for the children. We even managed a game of tennis. Staff were very friendly and helpful and facilities were very clean and well maintained. We will be recommending thee location to ourf friends and hope to return soon.

Total package

Lee M, Hexham
We choose this cottage as we've got 2 dogs and a teenage daughter who can't live without Wi-Fi! It's a nice quiet location only a few minutes drive from the coast and Alnwick, plus if the weather is poor, there's always the excellent spa/gym to retreat to. The cottage was nicely appointed with lovely views across to the Cheviot hills. The terrific log burner came in handy as well!
