My Best Friends 30th

KirstiAnderson, Sunderland, United Kingdom
We stumbled on Tarset Tor by accident whilst searching for places to stay for my best friends 30th birthday. We knew we wanted somewhere a bit rural, lovely views, clean and tidy and not too far away from home. What can I say, Tarset Tor ticks all of these boxes and so many more! We visited Monday to Wednesday in mid February. The first thing that hits you is the lack of phone signal / dodgy gps so finding the place was a little difficult but it didn't take us long to spot the beautiful Bothys. Upon arrival we found the pellet heater already burning and the place lovely and warm. perfect for a cold winters evening. The kitchen area is small but has absolutely everything you could ever need. The theme of Bothy 1 is lime green - sounds awful but works so so so well. Moving from the spotless kitchen into the living room we found a gorgeous wooden table and benches for dining and two comfy leather sofas in from of the fire and enormous patio doors. Once you have braved the stairs (steep and shallow - not for the faint hearted!) you will find two bedrooms each with their own shower room . Both bedrooms sleep 4 people in bunk beds but each bed has their own curtain to make things more private if you don't fancy your friends seeing you dribbling in your sleep! Rob (the owner and builder!) came to visit us around an hour or two after arrival to make sure we had settled in and had everything we needed. Top guy and beds over backwards to accommodate you and make your stay special. The whole place is absolutely beautiful and extremely clean. The views from the Bothy are utterly stunning, you really do feel like you are the only people for miles and miles. I cannot recommend this place enough to anyone and everyone. Can't wait to book our next trip, and this time it'll be for longer!

Brilliant weekend enjoyed by all!

Louisa D,
We stayed in the bunkhouse (4 families, 8 kids in total ranging from 6-10yrs) and my parents and sister plus husband stayed in one of the bothy properties. We were here for 3 nights over the NYE weekend. We had an absolutely brilliant time and the accommodation worked perfectly for us. We were a little worried about being cold but the bunkhouse was nice and warm all the time and we could 'boost' the heating whenever we wanted. The cooking facilities were good enough for us to cook decent meals for 20 people and the table was plenty big enough for us all to sit around. The bedrooms were big enough for us to store all our gear and the beds were reasonably comfortable. The area itself is beautiful and the star show at nightime was awesome. The kids (and men!) especially loved making a fire in the fire pit up at the woodland bar area and then toasting marshmallows! All in all it was a really enjoyable stay for all of us and I will definitely be recommending it to my friends.

Awesome, friendly and the good kind of unusual

Ben W,
I booked this for a weekend reunion with some university friends because it was in our price range and not too far from home, and we absolutely loved it. The surroundings are amazing, the hosts are friendly down to earth and fun, the bothy we stayed in was cosy beautiful and had everything you'd need. Really enjoyed all of the extra things around the site such as the little sauna, fits pits and especially the outside bar and BBQ area, which was has an awesome atmosphere and let us meet other people staying at Tarset. We didn't want to leave and will definitely be coming back if we manage to pull off another reunion next year. Thanks for having us!

A 30th Birthday Celebration to remember

th0mps0nsc, Sunderland, United Kingdom
I randomly found this cabin and thought "hey this would be amazing to celebrate my 30th with close family and friends"... and I was not disappointed! Yes, the pictures make the place look bigger than it was but I was in no way unhappy with what I found when I arrived. The living space was absolutely perfect! On arrival we were greeted by the owner who was so welcoming and had us all laughing straight away. He explained the rules about noise etc. but basically told us to enjoy the place and have fun which we definitely did. I read a review saying that the seating in the living area only sat 6 people... well we were able to sit 9 comfortable on the sofas which was ideal as if you're wanting to sit and watch TV for your holiday you're in the wrong place. The dining table/pool table was perfect as we were able to sit as a big group for breakfast, remove the cover then let people play pool as and when they wanted (the dining table is also perfect for Beer Pong!) Moving to the bathroom - nothing special, 2 toilets, 2 showers and a disabled access shower and toilet - the first night I opened the shower cubicle and thought i was going to be trickled on - Boy was I wrong! Showers are great! Excellent water pressure and temperature. Bathroom was clean and tidy and again meet our requirements. Bedroom time - Yes the Mattresses look thin and have a plastic cover (Can't expect a backpackers lodge to have memory foam king size divans though can we) but they are unbelievably comfortable. I'm not good at sleeping in strange places but I slept right through the night. Bedding was clean and stored away for us to use. Outside Space - two good size tables for us all to sit at. Our dog was in her element running round the grass happy as Larry. The bar was great too. Was great for a few drinks around a campfire I will most definitely book this place again - I have already been looking at booking one of the Bothys for another smaller celebration in April. If you want to go somewhere to enjoy some fresh air, in a well maintained, clean cabin with excellent owners then do not waste any time and book this place immediately. This place made turning 30 so much better!!

Perfect location, incredible views and fantastic memories

john r,
WOW! Great hosts, fab location and a really well equipped bunkhouse. The owners are very welcoming and accommodating and I admire Rob for designing and building these himself - of course with the fantastic support of his lovely wife. If you are looking for good value, great location for exploring Hadrians Wall, Kielder Water and the Northumberland National Park then look no further!!
