1st class family break!!

Katie D,
Myself, my partner and our twin boys (age 8) travelled North for a long weekend and boy was it worth the drive. Rob was at door 10 minutes after our arrival with fishing rods, bait and easy instructions. The creek complete with pontoon is just down the hill for our fabulous Bothy. The Bothy was far more spacious and well equipped than we imagined and heated by an amazing peat boiler, resulting in a hot powerful shower and regulated heat throughout our stay. The local area is spectacular and full of things to do for us all. The Cocker family as hosts were perfect, we couldn't have had a better time!

Excellent place to stay for large groups!

sharonjulia, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom
This was a great place to stay for a large group. 20 of us stayed here. It was a very comfortable place. There are 4 room which sleep 5 people. A large kitchen diner with a real fire going. 3 showers and 2 loos. Perfectly adequate for a big group of people. It was very clean. A sauna can also be hired. The location is great and is within easy reach of some great walks. Kielder is a great place to visit. The owners help out in any way they can to make it easier for anyone visiting. They would have taken in our shopping and put the frozen stuff in the freezer if we had needed, from the Asda home delivery. It well worth the visit big or small group!

The perfect location, perfect place

Hollie T, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom
Just got back from a long weekend up at Tarset Tor. 8 of us stayed in one of the bothys and we can't even put into words how amazing it was!!!! Rob and Claire were brilliant hosts, they couldn't do enough to help!! They gave us loads of recommendations of places to visit and things to see, including an amazing waterfall in the village of Bellingham (about a 5 mile round walk...not 3 like the signs say!!!) The bothys were spotless, it was my first time staying in one and I was pleasantly surprised. They were massive inside and beautifully decorated 😊They have everything in them that you need, you just bring your food and drinks 😊 The site itself has stunning views, we were lucky to get a clear night and saw loads of meteors and shooting stars. It really is the perfect place!!! We had 3 kids with us and they enjoyed it more than us! Playing out in the fields and fishing in the pond, it was lovely to see them away from the computer games!!! I really can't recommend this place enough, they cater for all occasions and even have the hillbilly bar area where we spent a fab night around a fire pit having drinks and a bbq. Thanks so much Rob and Claire...we will definitely be back!!! The Thorpes and Cartledges 😊

Great stay with the kids

Emma20220,
We stayed here for 1 night on a special offer of £100. We stayed in bothie 1 and it was lovely, had everything we needed from washing up facilities to tea and coffee! The stairs leading to the upstairs in the bothie are very steep however this is in the advert when booking. Could be very dangerous if you've had a drink and get up to go to the toilet! The surroundings were lovely and it was a great base for Keilder forest and water. There were 2 bedrooms upstairs each with 2 sets of bunk beds and a shower room in each. Toilet is downstairs. Clare and Rob were lovely and very welcoming. The only reason I have marked this as a 4 and not a 5 is that we had an issue with the pellet boiler. It kept going off which meant the heating didn't come on so got cold on the night. Rob did come down and reset it however it went off again half an hour later. There's no phone signal at all to ring and I couldn't be bothered to walk back along to the main house again so made do with the small electric heater in the cupboard. Would definitely return here in the future and are looking to book a couple of bothies with family soon :-)

Tarset Tor replied: Thank you Emma for your kind words and are glad you enjoyed your stay putting aside the issues with the 'biomass pellet boiler'. it's not our normal policy to respond to good reviews but yours gives us chance to explain the issue raised to 'readers' It is correct that the stairs are steep as the sleeping quarters are on a mezzanine level they are about 5% sleeper than normal stairs, that said they have hand rails on both sides and it would be fair to say that drinking lots of beer and walking up and down sleeper stairs could be a hazard! The Pellet Boilers (biomass) that we have in each building do, on occasion, cause an issue and confusion as they can deceive because they look like a 'real fire' but they work like any-other heating system controlled by a thermostat on the wall, the system heats the space like real fire the radiators and the hot water..So therefore, if there is enough hot water and the room is warm enough the boiler will not call for heat and there will be no flame and it ceases to look like a 'real fire' To cut a long story short, the previous guests to you had turned down the temperature on the thermostat and that's why the pellet boiler was not calling for heat. The heating system when running correctly gives us a 'renewable heat incentive' (RHI) In doing this the profit subsidises the electricity and water bills making the buildings green and efficient to run and also reducing our carbon foot print by not burning fossil fuels. This clearly is an issue that we must address by checking the are settings before new guests arrive. so we are really sorry we missed doing this on your visit. Thanks again for you Fab review.

Excellent holiday! Will definitely book again!

IceQueen7777,
Arrived here feeling a little apprehensive as we have 4 Children aged 16, 9, 7 and 3 so finding a holiday that suits all is difficult. However - this was a superb holiday, and was enjoyed thoroughly by us all! The bothy was immaculate and both Rob and Claire were very welcoming and friendly and knew the surrounding area well. We will definitely be returning to this beautiful area.
