A Beautiful and Relaxing location

rennie2,
We stayed for a week mid July in the new Beech Premier lodge with hot tub. The lodge was beautiful it was spotlessly clean and modern although maybe a little dark as it was situated under the trees. Our decking area and hot tub were very private as we were in an elevated position but alot of the lodges down the hill were very overlooked and maybe could do with a privacy screen of some sort around the hot tub. There was no information pack telling you how to use the appliances so we had trouble trying to sort out how to use the washer/dryer the fire and the T.V. Kielder is a beautiful area with stunning scenery but it is very remote! It is a 1 hour drive to civilization and the nearest decent supermarket! The shop on site seemed to cater more for gifts so make sure you take all your shopping needs with you! We tried the restaurant on site but wasn't impressed with the meal so we didn't bother going in again. We had a lovely afternoon in The Bird of Prey Centre. Ray and Cath gets everyone involved in the flying demonstrations and my son really enjoyed it. The staff in reception are very pleasant and helpful. Overall we had a lovely relaxing week stay at Kielder Waterside surrounded by stunning views and lots of wildlife we even managed to spot a red squirrel from the squirrel hide!!

Fab family retreat!

Karen E, Perth and Kinross, United Kingdom
We spent a week here in July in the Hadrian Superior lodge with our 6 year old. We were slightly apprehensive about the midgie situation after reading other reviews but other than one evening where it was damp and drizzly outside, they never bothered us. Yes, you need to keep windows and doors closed at night or they will come in to the light but I was the only one who was bitten a few times. We brought smidge with us and a bottle was also left in our lodge so we used that to keep them at bay in the evenings! The lodge itself was clean and there were some nice touches such as fresh robes, toiletries, milk in the fridge, cleaning supplies and plenty rubbish bags. There is a washer/dryer and a dishwasher too. There is also a PS3 with a couple of games so the child was happy! The lodges are spaced well apart from each other so you have privacy. In the decked area there is a hot tub which we used every day! The maintenance people come round on a daily basis to check the levels so that was quite reassuring. There is also a chiminea and a BBQ stand but you need to purchase disposable trays from the shop. We spent a lot of time roaming around, going on bike trails through the forest etc. We brought our own bikes but you can hire them easily on site. There's a few activities for kids of different ages. Our kid was just a year too young for some of them such as archery but he enjoyed Panna Soccer and the water walkers as well as the swimming pool. There are various play areas dotted around the park too for kids as well as an inflatable pillow on the decking of the restaurant. We only used the restaurant once for our sons birthday. The staff brought him a birthday balloon and a teddy which was a really lovely gesture! The food was really good. I have a gluten allergy and it's the first time I've actually been spoiled for choice in a restaurant! I used the gym a couple of times too which was well equipped and free to lodge residents. The staff all obviously work really hard here and enjoy their job as they are always happy and smiling! The lodges were all being used by the looks of it but it never felt 'busy'. There was such a relaxed atmosphere wherever you went and I don't remember queuing for anything. It was proper relaxation even though we cycled/walked miles! There is no mobile signal and only wi-fi in the main complex area but that was just what we needed! My family would return here again in a heartbeat!

Fantastic lodge in a great location for walking and views plus great customer service

yorky43, South Yorkshire
Booked a 4 night stay in one of the new Birch Premier lodges nearly a year ago. Arrived on site around 3.15pm and although we couldn't get the keys until 4pm, we were asked to complete the check in form by the lovely Ryan and retreated to the Boat Inn to sample their tipples. The views from here are fantastic and once we finished our drinks we took a quick trip to reception to get the keys and map of the lodge location. We had expected to park outside the lodge but Ryan told us we could unload and then we needed to park in the allocated spot. This wasn't a problem, however the people in the lodge next door left their car outside for the whole time we were there. You get 2 key cards for the lodge and one needs to go in the key slot inside the lodge to operate the lights. What a fabulous lodge. High spec furniture and fittings and wonderful woodland views. The new lodges have Wi-fi which we didn't know until we visited the reception later and you also have free use of a telephone which you can use whenever you want. The phone signal is non existent except if you are on the EE network. Both bedrooms had bathrooms next door which makes it great for 2 couples or family use. No shortage of appliances including a Dolce Gusto coffee machine (a few pods supplied) and PS4 and BOSE system. We were fortunate to have a hot tub and this again was high spec but we couldn't find instructions on how to use it. There was a box on top of the fridge that had booklets on how to use the appliances but we could not find anything in there for the hot tub or the washing machine. A quick call to reception and Ryan came to the lodge to assist as maintenance were busy. Fortunately when he was there he tried to show us how to use the TV but the remote wasn't working and needed new batteries. It would be helpful to have basic instructions in the lodge to let you know how to use everything instead of having to look through a box file of leaflets. The decking also had a chiminea and a place to use a portable BBQ. We did encounter some problems with the lodge. The major issue being when we lost power just as we were eating our tea at 6.30pm on our second day. We did spend some time waiting for the maintenance guys to arrive and although the situation wasn't fully resolved, temporary measures were made to get us some power until the following day. Despite having power the next day, the problem itself was with the gas hob and we were unable to use it for the remainder of the holiday. We met with Tracey who was the guest relations manager and she was extremely helpful with compensation and the offer of using the restaurant for breakfast and evening meals whenever we wanted. One thing evident is that customer service and the experience of all guests is the centre of importance for all here. Everyone we met were courteous, helpful and a joy to meet. Therefore if you do encounter any problems, please speak to them on site and I'm sure they will try to resolve any issues. We had a great time and enjoyed some lovely walks in this beautiful location. You get a free car parking ticket so you can park your car at any of the other car parks in the area. Thank you Tracey, Dan, Ryan & Wayne to name a few of the great staff we met. See you next year!

Really lovely stay

geordielady_7, Newcastle upon Tyne
Have literally just arrived home after 5 lovely days at Kielder Waterside Lodges. The lodge was very comfortable and had everything you could need for a few days away. It was also exceptionally clean and well looked after. All the little extra touches such as toiletries, treats for the dogs, PlayStation and so on really added to our holiday. I bought a load of food before we came but after long days of walking and activities the last thing we wanted to do was cook so we ate at the boat inn which was really lovely! The food was great. I want to add an extra thank you to the staff at Kielder waterside and at the Calvert trust for going the extra mile and really being very helpful and friendly. We left this morning with a tin of sweets and coffee/water! Thank you for a wonderful time

Home Away from Home!

Victoria N, Gateshead, United Kingdom
I enjoyed a stay in the newly built lodges at Leaplish in Kielder with friends and family. It was absolutely stunning inside and out, with every modern appliance, as well as a Playstation and flat screen TV. The hot tub outside was amazing. The views, the forest, the woodland smells, everything was fantastic. You are stone's throw away from the Visitor's Centre, the lake on which you can have a boat tour, swimming pool, gift shop, restaurant/bar and even crazy golf. It was such a relaxing weekend. It certainly wasn't cheap, however well worth the money. You are also close to Kielder Observatory and the castle.
