Gate Lodge

Gate Lodge is the kind of place where you relax the minute you walk through the door. Many holiday cottages are described as luxury but Gate Lodge truly is and was spotlessly clean. The soup and fresh bread were really welcome on our arrival and Graham & Trysha are excellent hosts. Trysha's pizzas were delicious and it was a treat to have the option of having a meal cooked for us whilst staying self catering. Soaking in the hot tub after a day walking by the coast whilst watching the birds visit the feeders was wonderful. We also saw the red squirrel on a couple of days. Gate Lodge is a real haven from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Thank you Trysha & Graham for the special memories we have of our stay.

Walking week in the Cheviots

We stayed in the Coach House a cosy, comfortable, clean and extremely well equipped cottage for 2. The location was superb with amazing walks on our doorstep and peaceful too. We arrived to the smells of fresh bread from the bread machine and Lamb Balti which was in the slow cooker, we had ordered this from Trysha beforehand. The food was delicious! Graham and Trysha were on hand if needed and their attention to detail helped to make our stay extremely special and memorable!

Gate Lodge is a Luxury Cottage for two. This is our third visit to Cheviot Holiday Cottages, the second in Gate Lodge. The setting is perfect, the Cottage is beautiful and the hosts Trysha and Graham are so welcoming . The accommodation is a very high standard and everything in it is excellent quality. The cottage is built close to The Old Rectory and therefore the garden is well established and attracts wonderful wild life but at the same time is totally private. There has been the added addition of the Hot Tub which proved a blessing after a long day walking in the Valley or along the many Coastal Routes in the area. It is great to turn out all the lights in the cottage and go in the tub after dark - the sky is a mass of stars (some shooting) it is truly amazing. We ordered a Beef Stew for our arrival day which was prepared by Trysha - top marks - we didn't leave a scrap. The addition of welcome items such as Honey, Chocolates and a beautiful Orchid which we managed not to kill are such a lovely touch. All the surrounding area is stunning and most of the pubs do good quality food and make you very welcome. We have been in two of the properties here now and we have nothing negative to say about either of them. Dont waste time trawling the internet until your head hurts - book here - you will not be disappointed. Thank you to Trysha and Graham for looking after us.

All of the superlatives have already been used. We can but add our endorsement of these. Trysha and Graham are excellent hosts. Even the Nuthatches perform to order. If you fill the bird feeder with peanuts the Nuthatches arrive and once they have eaten their fill they hide the peanuts in between the paving slabs and proceed to cover their bounty with moss. Attention to detail is the order of the day at Cheviot Cottages.

Luxury cottage in quiet location

If you are looking for a luxury cottage then look no further. We were welcomed by Graham who showed us to Dovecote cottage. There was a homemade loaf of bread and starter pack of every day needs including milk, honey, coffee and tea bags, dish cloth, scourer, cleaning equipment and dishwasher/washer tablets. All of the crockery, kitchen equipment and appliances are top quality. The information lounge on site is a great idea. We stored our bikes securely onsite too although there are bikes for hire. We didn't need the log burner but imagine it would be lovely during colder spells. The jacuzzi bath in Dovecote is a lovely addition especially after a long walk or bike ride in the Breamish valley . We tried several of the recommended eateries that were in the information lounge booklet. To be honest most of the pubs serve fabulous food with locally sourced ingredients. They are also dog friendly in the bar areas if you need this. We also had home made pizza cooked by Trysha and delivered by Graham which was a nice touch. We had an issue with the smoke alarm but as Graham had explained if we had any problems do not hesitate to ask. He sorted this out after a couple of visits and was very apologetic. We visited Alnwick castle and gardens which is only 20 minutes away by car. The whole if the Northumberland coast is just beautiful and we will definitely be returning to see more. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Such a peaceful location.
