Overview

Located in the Northumberland National Park and the International Gold Tier Dark Sky Park, Brown Rigg is perfect for a quiet and relaxing break for couples, families, and large groups. Our site, 24 acres in total, is also suitable for walkers and cyclists. The Pennine Way Walking Trail and the Sandstone Way Cycle route pass the entrance to Brown Rigg and National Cycle routes 10 and 68 are just yards away. We offer secure lockable storage for bikes and there is a laundry/drying room on site.

The four, beautifully refurbished, self catering lodges are comfortable, spacious and well equipped with an open plan kitchen, dinning area and sitting room. Each lodge has three bedrooms sleeping up to six people, between a mix of double, twin, king and bunk rooms and are available on an individual basis, or you can make a whole site booking. All of the sitting rooms and rear bedrooms have fabulous views over open countryside, where our resident sheep and horses graze.

There is plenty of space for children to play and the Master bedroom in Pennine and Hadrian have patio doors that open out onto a games field, which is ideal for playing rounders or football. The tarmac courtyard in front of the lodges is also great for children to cycle on their bikes, scooters and roller blades. There is also a BBQ area and private parking directly outside the lodges.

The Function and Games Hall is available for use by guests unless it has been booked for a private function (for which a separate charge applies). The Hall can cater for a large number of people and is excellent for celebrations, meetings or for just eating together. There is a pool table and a table tennis table.

Dog friendly.

Free WiFi available.

Shops and restaurants are a short walk away in nearby Bellingham.

Hadrian`s Wall, Kielder and Kielder Observatory are within easy reach.

Fantastic place for a holiday

TanzEH, Cape Town, South Africa
Stayed here with three adults and three children and had a wonderful time. There is tonnes of space both inside and outside the lodges - with a games room and football pitch for the kids to run around in. Lovely area, short pretty walk into Bellingham. It's a 30-40m drive to fab places like the Kielder Observatory and Hadrian's Wall. The Lodge was spotlessly clean with a big kitchen and living room and loads of hot water. It was the perfect base to explore the surrounding countryside. The owners are lovely and the price is very affordable. Basically this place is a gem and I recommend it 100%. Also you can get a bus to Brown Rigg from outside Hexham station (but not on Sundays) which is good if you don't have a car. Or a taxi from Hexham is £30. The Hareshaw Linn Walk to the waterfall is really lovely - starts from Bellingham opposite the garage.

A great weekend for us all

JaneFChester, Chester
This was an emotional trip back to Brown Rigg for my Mum as she was one of the first pupils to attend the boarding school in 1946. Her original dormitory has gone now but we stayed in Pennine Lodge. The views are spectacular in this lodge. Our dog, Harry, loved his visit as there are open fields and a huge fenced area leading from the back of the lodge via the patio doors in the bedroom. Our lodge was the last one to be refurbished but it was very clean and well equipped so I have no doubt it will be even better after it's had a coat of paint etc. The owners Alastair and Sue can't do enough for you. All in all, we loved every minute :)

Fantastic family event

Arbitrarian,
We booked Brown Riggs for my 60th birthday party and what a fantastic choice it was. Three days with 27 members of the family across the four lodges and a motorhome. We cycled, walked and drove around the local area together. We gathered in impromptu groups throughout the weekend and we had a a substantial dinner together on the Saturday evening - self catering in the hall, of course. There wasn't a single complaint, which for my family is unprecedented. No complaints about the accommodation, the facilities or the company. Best family party ever, I'm told, and I agree. Certainly the best place to have it. We loved Brown Riggs, it does exactly what it says on the can, then exceeds your expectations, we'll be back.

Always great

lauradoll78, Durham, United Kingdom
A fab base for many activities, 20 mins from Kielder/ Hexham and plenty of amenities in Bellingham. Cosy, well equipped cottages with plenty of parking, clean and comfy beds and a great games room if you're visiting as part of a group. Ideal if you're staying for a night or over a longer period of time. Just back from my third stay at Brownrigg and planning my next one already.

Lovely place

Lattz9, Durham
We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Kielder Winter Wonderland. It was about 15 mins drive from there so pretty spot on for location. There were 5 adults and 4 children age 3-8, so we booked 2 lodges which were next door to eachother. Each lodge had a double room and 2 twin rooms. The lodges were clean and tidy with everything we needed - including comfy beds! Parking right outside the lodge. Amazing views and lovely quiet location. Would definitely recommend.
