Good for big groups

thelongestscarf, Macclesfield, United Kingdom
We stayed at the Hog's Head for two nights over a friend's wedding in Alnwick. It was a nice hotel, very clean and quiet. Lots of wedding guests had also booked, and the restaurant was big enough to accommodate us all for food and some drinks afterwards.

Short visit

Deni D,
Stayed two nights, mid week, in August and found the hotel perfect for our needs. The staff were extremely helpful, cheerful, and seemed genuinely interested in us as guests. The accommodation is top notch, spacious, very clean, and well insulated with regards noise from other rooms. The car parking was plentiful and free, (note: Britannia Inns Group).

The Hogs Head Inn replied: Thank you for leaving this review, pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay in our lovely Inn and we do hope you come back for another great time!

Highly recommended for an excellent stay

Peter K, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom
After deciding to visit Northumberland once again, my husband booked us three nights at the Hog's Head - and we had a thoroughly excellent stay from start to finish. Upon arrival, staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly (and this continued throughout). Our room was amazing: an enormous disabled access/family room with a double bed, a sofa bed and further space for the travel cot for our two year old. The cleanliness of the room was also outstanding: at one point we needed to hang some bibs to dry, and when I joked about hanging them over the curtain rail we found no dust there whatsoever. This attentive care was common throughout the bar and hotel. I was really surprised to read prior reviews that complained about the noise from the A1: our room was on the A1 side, and it was hardly intrusive at all. The food was of a very high quality - both the breakfast (cooked breakfast buffet style, kept very warm throughout) and the restaurant/bar food. Food and drink was also of a reasonable price, and service continued to be great. Our little boy loved the play area outside too (adjacent to outdoor heating with heaters for the colder months) which seemed suitable for a good range of ages. With a Spar, Costa and MacDonalds on the doorstep, there are further alternatives for those who feel they need it and a Sainsbury's is less than a five minute walk away. Additionally, we were really pleased with how close the Hog's Head was to Alnwick (for visiting the Garden and Castle) - a 20 minute walk in almost a straight line was perfect, and although we didn't use it there appeared to be a bus stop just outside the hotel with regular buses into Alnwick too. We genuinely have no complaints about the Hog's Head - it was perfect, and we are already planning our next visit!

The Hogs Head Inn replied: Ah, Thank you for leaving this kind review. I am so pleased you and your family enjoyed your stay with us and we would love to welcome you back again in the near future!

Should of been wonderful

mississippi3, Newcastle, United Kingdom
Stayed overnight on 3rd August due to a family wedding at Alnwick garden. Lovely cosy and inviting public areas. Lunch at hotel was lovely. Lots of people stayed here belonging to the wedding party. Staff could not have been nicer or more helpful especially as there was a mix up with some of the rooms not bring booked for early check ins when we thought they had. Nobody's fault but the hotel were more than helpful in ensuring some rooms were ready so some of the party could change into wedding clothes. So far so good...... When my wife and I returned late evening after a hectic day at the wedding we took our belongings from the car and went to our room. ( we could not do this beforehand as we did not have early check in ) Made a cup of tea, watched TV to unwind, got ready for bed. Upon turning the bed back to go to sleep I was horrified to notice that the bed had not been changed. Crumpled slept in bedding. On further inspection the pillow slips looked fresh, the valance was filthy. By this time it was really late in the evening probably heading towards midnight. We decided therefore to sleep on top of the bed rather than complain as there probably wouldn't of been any house keeping at that time of night. We had a towel and a dressing gown to keep us warm. In the morning I complained when checking out. I explained the above to a rather bemused and uninterested lady who said she would look into this. At no point did she apologise or ask for contact details. I backed up my complaint with an email sent on 4th August via the contact us page on the hotel web site. As of this review I have had no contact from anyone. Now as much as this is a nice hotel it is not , in my opinion a cheep hotel for where it is located . Everyone can make a mistake from time to time but I dId expect some kind of follow up to my complaint. A real let down to an otherwise lovely hotel.

Excellent accommodation

Pauline D, york
The room was large and well equipped. We found the staff very helpful and the food in the restaurant was very good, both for breakfast and also in the evening. I would certainly recommended this hotel. It is well situated for excursions in Northumberland.
