Terrible

I'm sure I must have had a pub meal that was worse than this at some point in my life, just can't bring it to mind... The pub has atmosphere and the beer is good, but the food is really not good. Avoid 'house' curry at all costs. Seriously gross.

Not bad but not great either:you get what you pay for

Two couples on a walking holiday in Northumberland stayed in the black bull in rooms 9 and 11 on the 3rd floor overlooking the local bus station and the hills beyond. Woofer is a good place to stop with wonderful countryside around and this is the nearest habitation with a few restaurants, banks and even a supermarket. Our room was a bit tight for size especially the shower, toilet set up. However the bed (queen size) was comfortable and there was tea, coffee facilities in the room along with two bottles of water. We had a tv. Internet was unavailable in the rooms but was available in the bar. The shower was very poor(pressure and variable heat plus shower hose fitting was broken so showering was awkward). We ate in the restaurant and it was ok. Decent enough home cooking. The black bull could do with some serious investment and this would turn it into a fabulous place. We found the staff amiable enough after a while. Check around for better places in the town. We paid £60 per couple for our rooms and breakfast

Birthday visit

Stayed in wooler for the week and visited the black bull several times. It was friendly and warm with a large open fire in bar. Frequented ,as you would expect by locals it was always busy. I took my family there for Sunday lunch and we were seated upstairs, all seven of us agreed that the meal was very good, portions were large and the service was swift. We took another couple there through the week And all four of us settled on the steak pie and chips which was huge and very nice but the vegetables were on the cold side. We found the locals friendly and the bar quite snug, we would almost certainly go back. This is not a modern pub but just what a good local pub should be.
