I was amazed by this pub.

hazel d,
On a Tuesday night this pub was buzzing, filled with locals and holiday makers enjoying a drink and/or a bar meal. The menu had lots of tempting offers but I went for the fish and chips. They were the best fish and chips I have ever had, quite astonishingly good. It seems the the chef and her assistants worked very hard to ensure that everything that came out of the kitchen was excellent. I had a trifle for pud and that was great too. I wish we'd stayed there as well as eating there. I can't wait to go back. What a discovery.

Comfortable room for overnight stay

michael d, Wakefield, United Kingdom
There is off street parking which leads to rear entrance to hotel. Room was a decent size and at front facing the Main Street. We ate in the bar in the evening and the food was good with generous portions. Breakfast was served upstairs in a large lounge type room & the English breakfast was good but not exceptional. The black bull is a pub with a pleasant atmosphere in the bar & the locals we met were a friendly bunch with a real sense of humour. The beer was ok too but one of my friends wasn't keen on the local craft pale ale. The other beers I thought were really good local brews though. For an overnight stop as part of a tour of Northumberland & Hadrian's wall or even on the way to Scottish Borders & beyond, for the price you can't go wrong.

A lovely stay

Paul L,
We spent one night there while completing St Cuthbert's Way. We were made to feel welcome from the very start. The staff worked hard and were very pleasant and thoughtful. The food was outstanding and the range of drinks excellent. The room was comfortable and of a good size. All in all we had a restful stay and would like to thank the hotel for creating a 'home from home'.

Great stay

John H, Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom
We stayed for one night whilst walking St. Cuthbert's Way. Had booked a superior room , which was the best room on the whole trail :). Very central location. Only slight let down was breakfast - fruit and juice had run out, and service lower standard than usual. Would very happily stay here again if could be sure of getting same room.

Lovely place.

Claire P,
We visited when we were on holiday and just wanted a light lunch as we were eating out that evening. I opted for the prawn cocktail and my husband had a jacket potato with cheese and beans. The food came promptly and was very well presented. The portions are large and well priced. The pub itself is very friendly indeed, all the staff are great. If your in Wooler this place is definitely worth a visit.
