Afternoon Tea

Beth T, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
I received a voucher for my birthday for the Champagne Afternoon Tea, and after looking at the photos I was rather excited! However, we did find our experience somewhat deflating. Firstly, the signs only indicated where to go for the hotel, and after wandering around downstairs (also a lack of signs) we found the reception and hoped we were in the right place! It seems that we were, and we were told to find the room in which our table was (luckily this was easy!) and that someone would be with us shortly. After waiting a short while a waiter did come through, however, he seemed extremely confused and we felt as though he may not be part of the serving/restaurant team. Admittedly, we were happy to be confused with him, but it did make it harder to get our experience off to a start! Once he had asked someone else for some guidance, things went a little smoother. The Afternoon Tea itself was a little disappointing, and all I could think was that it had come straight out of the fridge as everything felt icy cold (except the scones). Perhaps we were wrong (and I would like to think that everything was made fresh), yet there was definitely something that was lacking. All in all, our experience was okay, but the confusion over service and also an apparent lack of atmosphere (no music and a quiet room felt a tad awkward at times!) did ruin the experience for us. I simply wished that we had booked for later in the day (not at the beginning of afternoon tea service) as things appeared to improve from what we saw from others. Hopefully we just came on a bad day, as the hotel has beautiful surroundings and should be a treat for people to enjoy!

Family celebration - Doxford Hall

fionaallen2017, Bedford, United Kingdom
I organised a 4 night stay for my family (17 in total) from 8th – 11th August inclusive. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was a big family occasion, mainly celebrating my parents’ diamond wedding anniversary but also my father’s 85th birthday. We had a private room for dinner on both 8th Aug and 11th Aug – and for our breakfasts too, which was a pleasant surprise. The service was very good, with our own private waiter/s on each occasion. The food was excellent. The hotel was very flexible in allowing us to order from the casual dining menu, instead of from the more formal menu, which we felt was a bit too much for us. The hotel is very well equipped, and based in a gorgeous setting. The bedrooms and the communal areas are very attractive and comfortable. The spa facilities were good too, including pool, Jacuzzi, treatments etc. The cream teas were a highlight for us! Every day after a trip out we would all descend, wanting tea and scones. The service was very good, and the staff were not fazed by the number of teapots and scones involved (the scones were delicious as just baked and warm). All in all we had a wonderful stay and would like to thank all the staff who made this possible. I had booked the hotel, the private dining and the spa treatments way ahead after looking at several hotels in the area. Even after a big build-up and high expectations, our stay in Doxford Hall did not disappoint. We loved our time there, so a big thank you to the hotel.

Had a lovely stay here as part of a wedding party. Amazing wedding service, beautiful rooms, lovely food and fantastic breakfast. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, all the staff were friendly and attentive and we had an amazing day at the hall. Thank you all :)

Great Location

We spent some time at this hotel for a much needed break. Our room was spacious as was the bathroom. We had 2 evening meals which were exceptional. There's a but coming!........ the service ranged from poor to shambolic. We sat in the dining room for 40 minutes before even a drink arrived. One morning at breakfast, the staff had definitely lost the plot. Maybe we just hit a bad time. The hotel is still worth going to. It is set in grounds which are well look after and it even has a maize. We didn't use the Spa but the photos of it looked wonderful. However, if you do stay, request a room far away from it. There is a constant hum throughout the night coming from that area. Not great for light sleepers. The staff themselves are pleasant enough but service does need to be improved if what we experienced is typical of the place.

Fantastic short break

We were shown a wonderfully warm welcome with all amenities clearly explained. The hotel is so beautiful both inside and out. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and were so friendly and approachable during our stay. We were delighted with our room which was spotlessly clean and had everything you might need. We would definitely recommend this hotel and spa and can't wait to return.
