Northumberland - Voted the BEST UK Family Holiday Destination by Mumsnet.com

With a never-ending selection of fantastic days out across Northumberland, you are guaranteed to find an activity to suit adults and children alike. Visit a stunning castle steeped in history, picnic in a charming park or make a splash in the surf of one of Northumberland’s beautiful beaches - perfect for building sandcastles.

Northumberland is also home to one of the most spacious national parks in England, which, coupled with Kielder Water and Forest Park, forms the largest Dark Sky Park in Europe- perfect for stargazing and learning about our galaxy.

The Gruffalo adventure has returned to Kielder Water and Forest Park for 2017! The amazing App (download before you leave home) will bring this trail alive for you and your family.

In the daytime, these locations provide endless opportunities for cycling, picnicking and exploring (by bicycle or on foot) for all the family.  From Hadrian’s Wall in the south of the county, to the medieval town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed in the North, there is no shortage of opportunities for history buffs young and old to discover Northumberland’s treasures, and apart from a few sandwiches for lunch- it’s all totally free.

Child-friendly events are held in a variety of venues throughout the year, from treasure hunts and craft workshops to family astronomy evenings; the whole family are sure to have a fun and relaxing break.

Whatever your family fancy; you’ll be making memories in no time, without breaking the bank!
