Ready to roll
Freewheel through forests, go on off-road adventures or take the family on gentle, circular cycling routes in Northumberland. Iconic landmarks, including castles and bastles, will pass you by and sweeping views will be your companion.
Northumberland is home to wild, open spaces, an interlacing network of quiet roads and more than 100 miles of purpose-built trails that offer excellent family outings, leisurely bike rides and mountain bike challenges. Several of these trails are long distance, such as Hadrian's Cycleway, The Coast & Castles Route, The Pennine Cycleway, The Sandstone Way and the UK's most popular route, the Sea to Sea (C2C).
You can decide whether you’d like to explore rugged National Park landscapes and discover the ancient history of Hadrian’s Wall while you ride, admire striking sea views with castles that line the coast, or picturesque villages where you can hang your helmet in fantastic pubs and cafés. Cruise past a selection of the 70 castles in the county, see the Scottish Borders from Ford and Etal, tackle the wild and rugged Cheviot Hills and go wildlife spotting in Kielder Water & Forest Park.
Join your fellow free-wheelers at some of Northumberland’s dedicated cycling events, such as The Dirty Reiver, The Naughty Northumbrian, and The Kielder Chiller 24 hour Race.
