Alnwick is historically known as the capital of Northumberland as it lies centrally in the county. It is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful Northumberland coast, including the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne, and countryside from the Borders down through Kielder to Hadrians Wall. Northumberland is the least populated county in the country but is blessed with the most castles, including Alnwick, Bamburgh, Warkworth, Dunstanburgh and Lindisfarne (Holy Island). It was to Holy Island that St Aidan introduced Christianity when he founded the first monastery in 653 AD.

Enjoy the tranquility and the history of this beautiful area.

Gem of a find!

MichelleLManchester, Manchester
We stumbled upon Greycroft after heading out on a last minute road trip for our wedding anniversary. Not typically the types to just turn up and book we were a little nervous about finding somewhere we would be both clean and comfortable and I'm pleased to say, Greycroft did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived the service was second to none! We were warmly greeted at the car by our host, Tom, who was very friendly and welcoming. He did the necessary paperwork and then showed us around the house before giving us the low down on the local area along with those a little further afield too. Our room (The Green Room) was very spacious, clean and comfortable. It had all of the amenities that we might need, tea, coffee, hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner to name but a few. There was also additional items in the communal areas should they have been required, water, wine, port, sewing kit etc. Breakfast was included in our rate and Tom did a great job being chef and waiter for the day. We opted for the Northumberland breakfast and it didn't disappoint! Whilst we didn't opt for the vegetarian sausages we were very impressed that Tom takes the time out to make these himself with herbs grown in his own garden. The B&B is centrally located and there are 4 parking spaces outside on a private road which are reserved for guests. All of the local attractions were within walking distance as are the local pubs and restaurants. We would recommend visits to Alnwick Castle and Gardens and The Treehouse restaurant for dinner. You will need to make a reservation for The Treehouse in advance as it can get quite busy but it's definitely an experience not to be missed! Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Audrey but it is clear that her and Tom care very much about the finer details and the comfort of their guests is their number one priority. We had a very enjoyable stay at Greycroft and will definitely be back in the near future to continue exploring the wonderful Northumbrian Countryside! Thank you once again Tom!

Excellent guest house

Wonderful. Beautifully clean throughout, excellent breakfast, very friendly and helpful people, lots of information re local attractions, places to visit and pubs/restaurants. Nice location handy for town centre.

Incredibly welcoming!

My sister and I stayed for three nights at the end of August and it was wonderful. Audrey and Tom were amazing hosts and couldn’t do enough for us and whilst we had a few things we knew we wanted to do whilst in Alnwick, Tom also recommended so many other places to visit too and we were really able to make the most of the area. The B&B itself is literally a five minute walk from the castle which is incredibly handy. It’s clean, beautifully decorated and has everything you could ask for. We’ll definitely be staying here again in the future! The vegetarian breakfast is to die for as well!!

A wonderful Northumbrian welcome!

Audrey, Tom and Sarah are warm, welcoming, informative hosts. They have thought of everything you need to have a wonderful, interesting stay. Tea and biscuits on arrival, newspapers, magazines, loads of local interest leaflets, bottled water, herb teas, fruit, fresh milk (in addition to a well stocked refreshments tray in the bedroom), delicious breakfasts overlooking a charming garden. The house is very central. It only takes a few minutes to walk to Barter Books, Alnwick Castle/Gardens, the Playhouse and a variety of shops and restaurants. Greycroft is extremely well placed as a base for exploring the beautiful Northumbrian countryside and coastline. We went to Alnmouth and Amble. Highly recommended.

A home from home!

We recently stayed at the Greycroft for five nights in September 2017 and were very impressed with the friendliness of Audrey, her son Tom and staff. Very clean and comfortable room, and wonderful breakfasts. Nothing was too much trouble. From the moment Audrey came out to greet us as we parked the car, till the final day we enjoyed our stay. From the free drinks in the inviting lounge to the beautiful breakfast room overlooking the garden, and all the helpful advice...we were grateful to have found such a gem. Thank you Audrey, Tom, and Sarah...we will be back one day!
