Excellent hotel and food

Carol C, Grimsby
Spent two days at this small hotel. Lovely area particularly liked Vinlanada visit. I food in hotel was excellent. Room was small but adequate and fresh fruit in room was a nice touch. Staff all very friendly and helpful.

Could this be the perfect Inn?

JRF178, Dorchester, United Kingdom
WE know Battlesteads well and have stayed here on several occasions, and each time it just gets better and better. Owners Richard and Dee Slade are constantly improving the experience and you begin to wonder what they will do next. Whatever it is, just when you think they can't do better they do just that. It really is a delightful experience! Towards the end of 2016 Richard and Dee embarked on an ambitious building programme extending the inn frontage, and providing more multi-function space for their constantly expanding clientele (in numbers not waistline!). It works, providing a wonderful sense of arrival, welcoming ambience and a launch pad for the delicious food on offer and carefully and sustainably sourced beverages available from the bar. The new eco-lodges do all that they are supposed to in terms of eco-friendliness, but also provide the necessary warmth and creature comforts you would expect from a first-class country inn. For stargazers the inn has its own observatory complete with resident astronomer so you can gaze up into the perfect night sky devoid of light pollution. Nearby you will find Hadrian's Wall so spend time learning about the Roman occupation and how it all worked - believe me it's fascinating. Richard and Dee, together with their lovely (am I allowed to say that?) and efficient manager, Katie, have created what we perceive as the perfect hostelry. Whatever will they think of next?

Wonderful food and service

Terry L, Telford, United Kingdom
We again booked for a two-night special to include an eight course tasting menu on our first night. The friendly and helpful staff booked us into a clean, well-equipped, adequate room. We booked dinner for 7pm to allow enough time for the full menu. What a delightful experience! We were offered the option of viewing the menu or being "surprised" by each course, and we chose to have a look at what was coming. Every course was scrumptious, even where (as we had experienced before) it comprised dishes we would never have chosen to order from a menu. The standout dishes included the asparagus and pea soup, beetroot three ways, and the stunning shepherd's pie served in a tiny individual saucepan. Amazingly, we still found room for a full breakfast in the morning, and it was delicious too!

Enjoyable Stay

Lisa W, Barnsley
Nice room, lovley food and great service, we stayed for a few nights would have liked to have visited the obsevatory but the forecast for the nights we stayed were not for clear skies, maybe next time.

Excellent weekend!

Peter S, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Stayed here for a lovely weekend with my wife and another couple. Hotel is a great place to stay and eat. Rooms are fine and well stocked with tea/coffee etc and a nice fruit platter too. Good selection of real ales and the food is simply fantastic. We had the 8 course tasting menu on our first night and it was superb. Breakfast is lovely too with a huge choice on offer. Lovely garden a the rear which is a real sun trap. Kate, the Head Gardener, keeps it lovely! Staff were excellent and it is a great base to explore Northumberland.
