Lovely Easter Sunday carvery

Emma L,
Great location on our way back from kielder. Well presented restaurant and bar with great carvery. The beef was perfectly done. Although it was raining the garden was lovely and would be great on a sunny day. Looking forward to coming back.

A group of nine of us from Northern Ireland, including our 95 year old Mum stayed here for the weekend using Battlesteads as our base for attending a wedding in nearby Otterburn. The rooms are spotless, really well equipped and with a well stocked tea/coffee tray including a variety of cookies and lots of fresh fruit. We enjoyed a fabulous evening meal on the Friday evening. Breakfast was amazing - lots of choice from the cold buffet followed by a wide selection of cooked breakfasts many using local produce which was nice to see. There is as much tea/coffee and toast as you want - try the different locally produced jams and marmalades - delicious especially the lemon and lavender and the strawberry and rose!!! Service was excellent with a number of the staff multi tasking - helping in reception, in the bar and also in the dining room. Surroundings are really cosy and homely with a lovely view of the walled garden behind the dining room/conservatory. We were really well looked after and it contributed to what was a fabulous weekend for our large family group - Thank you.

Great weekend

We stayed in one of the luxury lodges and were very happy with our accommodation. The lodge was comfortable, well furnished and equipped, with plenty of storage space, and had the most fantastic underfloor heating. In fact it was too warm and we had to turn it off and open the door! But I can imagine how lovely it is to be kept so warm when the weather is cold outside. The bathroom was very modern, with jacuzzi bath and separate shower, absolutely beautiful. Parking was right outside our door. The accommodation was excellent and I would definitely choose one of the lodges on a return visit. My husband attended one of the observatory courses, which he enjoyed very much. Food was excellent and breakfast first class, it definitely passed my scrambled egg test! In my view, staff interactions with customers needed just a bit of polish, particularly on check in and check out and when the restaurant got very busy. But overall we enjoyed the hotel so much that we are planning a return visit.

A delightful little hotel in a quaint village, with an observatory!!

Stayed here for three nights with a friend and his partner for his 40th. We were well looked after, great food and helpful staff. Breakfast was top notch, with fresh local produce cooked and presented beautifully, along with the normal buffet for juices, cereals etc. The room was comfy and well appointed, with a functional, if a little tired looking bathroom. The noise from outside the room was a little noticeable sometimes, but we were in the older part of the building so this isn't really something the owner could do much about, and it wasn't anything disturbing - just noticeable that's all. The best bit about this place for me, though - the owner has had the foresight to take advantage of the areas dark sky park status, and build an eco observatory manned by some very enthusiastic astronomers at the back, and a lovely big Celestron 11 inch computer driven scope - nice! We had a blast here - using the scopes to view things we've never seen before (living in the south means too much light pollution), so I was like a kid in a sweetshop! We took our first stacked images, and learnt all sorts of tips and tricks to make our own stargazing more fun. Highly recommended for a treat, and if you have curious kids (probably from 10yrs upwards), they'll love the observatory nights!

This is our second visit and we were upgraded to a lodge room it was gorgeous huge bed, huge bathroom all immaculately clean and the coconut biscuits - yummy - plenty of t and coffee and even fresh fruit. We were on a voucher which included the taster menu evening meal every course was unbelievable, we hadn't realised that beetroot could taste so good. Every course was superb. I think the breakfast was the best we've had for a long time beautifully cooked and presented with good ingredients, the cold buffet had all possibilities catered for. Staff were all helpful and even when busytmanaged to be pleasant and smile. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL.
