Excellent Stay - Gorgeous Little Hotel with Brilliant Green Credentials

alisonj1971, Manchester, United Kingdom
We stayed here on a two night deal booked through the Telegraph and it was so good I'd definitely stay again and pay full price and we've decided to buy some vouchers for friends as a wedding present. Very friendly staff, small but stylish and fully equipped room and superb food and drink....all in some of the most beautiful unspoilt countryside I have ever seen. It was idyllic. Had the 8 course tasting menu on the first night - the mini shepherds pie was to die for. All in all the food was outstanding both in the evening and at breakfast which was of a very high quality and plentiful. I loved this place and cannot wait to visit again. Most impressive was the obvious committment to the environment - eco friendly and beyond - think massive solar panel, veg and herbs from their own gardens, strong but sensible policies on waste, refillable toiletries in the rooms etc. Well done Battlesteads - my husband and I hope to see you all again very soon.

Beautiful spot!

Enjoyed a wonderful weekend stay at Battlesteads hotel. Great food, especially the unusual, but delicious, beetroot starter and the amazing liquorice and toffee ice cream! Very clean, well appointed rooms, with lovely fresh fruit and homemade biscuits. The village of Wark has to be one of the most beautiful spots in U.K., with welcoming, friendly residents. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Amazing

wends441, Hamilton, United Kingdom
We arrived and were met with very friendly staff and shown to our room and informed of all the hotel offers. Room was of a high standard in cleanliness as was all of the hotel. Had the 8 course taster menu on first night and it was exquisite and again staff were most welcoming and you didn't feel rushed. In the morning same staff and breakfast order taken and served promptly and again that evening same staff at dinner and all went smoothly. Only downside was on our last morning at breakfast were were shown to our table and as people came into breakfast room after us there order was taken before ours. The lady in charge did not appear to be bothered we had not been served. I can not name her as she was not wearing her name badge like the other staff members. All I can say was she had blonde hair and was very abrupt with us but you can not allow one person to spoil the hard work of the rest of the staff. All in well done to the staff we had on the first night and second morning and evening.

Great food and drink

vetteheadracer, Somewhere on the planet
Spent 2 nights staying at Battlesteads. Most important the hotel is dog friendly including allowing dogs in the bar. Excellent local food and good choice on both nights that we ate there. They offered and good selection of cask beers and a selection of wines, gins and whiskeys. There is an observatory behind the hotel and apparently the area is one of the darkest in the U.K. Sadly as we visited near the summer solstice the sky was light nearly all night. Lovely walk around the village along the river Tyne from opposite the hotel too for the dog. Great base for visiting Hadrian's Wall.

Relaxing Break

FionaT938, Aylesbury, United Kingdom
We booked a 2 night break through the Daily Telegraph. We had a comfortable room, complete with home baked biscuits and a basket of fruit. We opted for the 8 course taster meal the first night which we highly recommend but choose not to have the accompanying wines. The next evening we ate from the main menu and it was also excellent. Breakfast was good on both mornings with a great choice. The second morning, the lady in charge of the dining room seemed very disorganised unlike Denisza. All the waiting staff were very friendly especially Victor, George and John. We didn't take to Rory and hearing in a very vocal way in the bar about his drunken weekend away!! Not impressed. The weather was dreadful so we didn't visit the Observatory but we hope to return and hopefully visit then.
