Brilliant Borders Cottage

scottishsimpsons, Airth, United Kingdom
To say that this is a brilliant Borders cottage is perhaps an understatement. The "cottage" itself is more like a country house, furnished beautifully and much, much larger inside than you at first suspect. We spent five wonderful days there with our two kids and two dogs, all of whom felt completely at home. The location is perfect for exploring the region, which we did on foot via the many available walking paths, forests, etc and on our bikes through the meandering and very quiet country roads (do be warned: there seem to be more uphill sections than down, or at least that's what our legs told us). We were looking for someplace to escape to, somewhere isolated but close enough to civilisation, and the Yethouse was perfect for this.

Yethouse replied: Thank you. Very pleased you found us and enjoyed the cottage and our rural idyll! See you next year! B

Yethouse, by Newcastleton

robertreid7, Glasgow, United Kingdom
I had never been to this area before and found it one of the finest unspoiled parts of the country I have ever visited, Newcastleton is a beautiful rural village with with unexpectedly elegant 18the century townhouses and a park running alongside the river, There are shops for essential supplies, two hotels, excellent places to eat out and a large acclaimed centre for multiple outdoor activities. The Cottage at Yethouse, situated high above the village in open grassland, has panoramic views of the rolling hills for miles around, is where we stayed for a week this winter. The details of the property can be found on line. It is a home from home with everything you could possibly require ( and more ) for a country break. The Cottage is a traditional local farmhouse upgraded to suit the 21st century. It has a country house ambience with modern high quality essentials that we have come to relay on. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a holiday rental that is first class and excellent value for money.

Yethouse replied: Thank you for taking time to post a review. Delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and our wee village, we are off the beaten track but once you've been you'll never forget us, particularly if its peace and tranquillity you are after. Best wishes to all, B

Stunning stay

Yet House was booked for a 60th birthday celebration and it was perfect. Large enough for the seven in our party, with lots of room to move and come together for great meals. Yet House is very well equipped and close to fabulousness forest walks and the village with a real sense of being in the middle of nowhere! We also attended Keilder observatory on the coldest night of the year which was brilliant. Yet House is approximately thirty minutes drive from the observatory so perfectly placed for access to that great destination.

Yethouse replied: Many thanks for taking time to post a review for us. Delighted you all enjoyed your stay and the stars were twinkling brightly. Hope we can welcome you all back to enjoy another season. B

Just the place for a relxing break.

Lovely old house, fully stocked with modern conveniences, all in a fantastic Borders setting. Highly recommended!

Yethouse replied: Thank you for taking time to post a review for us, delighted you loved the house, we hope to welcome you all back some time.

A little bit of heaven in the Scottish Borders

Carrolls_Lancashire, Preston, United Kingdom
This was our second visit to Yethouse; the fact that we returned and have booked a third visit says it all really. Both visits - family of six plus two dogs & just us two plus two dogs - were equally memorable. I am hoping that there isn't a word limit, although I doubt words will do Yethouse justice. Yethouse itself is a stunning 'home from home'. It is furnished with lovely, oversized furniture yet retains a comfy, farmhouse feel which has, undoubtedly, taken a lot of thought to create. Walking out of the door, you could be the only people in the world, it is so peaceful. Only a short car ride away, though, is the village of Newcastleton, with its cosy pubs and cafes with superb food and treats. On both occasions, we arranged a Tesco shop to be delivered and this worked well. The kitchen is well-stocked with pots, pans and cooking utensils and a great range on which to cook. There is also a dishwasher and washer/dryer. Dining is either at the kitchen table (which we used, just being the two of us) or at the big, grand dining table (great for family dining); there are also two sets of crockery - for formal and informal dining! There are two living rooms, although we only used the main one on both occasions. The main lounge has a log burner, which is very welcome after a day out walking, and a door leading out to a secure back garden with the most stunning views. When we return, as a family, in April, we are looking forward to using the new patio area, currently under construction. Designed to take advantage of the incredible view, I can see that it is going to be difficult to tear ourselves away and go out! There are TVs - 3D, I believe, but this is a house to enjoy one another's company, warm ones feet in front of the fire and enjoy a glass of something whilst unwinding. There is also a large stock of board games. Whilst we were happy to walk with the dogs, exploring the forest, walks and local landmarks this time, we booked three visit to Rock UK when here with the family. It is well worth a visit and has something for everyone (even the dogs could 'join in' with canoeing!) In our experience (and reading other reviews, other people's too), there is always a warm and personal welcome at Yethouse. Barbara and Paul have worked hard to create an unforgettable place so that others can enjoy the Scottish Borders, regroup with family and friends, and revitalise body and mind before heading back to the rat race. Our family would like to say thank you to the Elborns for allowing us to share your little bit of heaven, and we look forward to returning en-masse in April.

Yethouse replied: Wow! Thank you very much for taking time to post such a full review. It was lovely to have you back, we look forward to showing you the new garden and patio next year! Best wishes to all. B
