Tarset Tor ticked all the boxes for our group of 7 dads and 16 kids. Great bike rides all around, supercool fire pit & barbecue area, good pub just up the road, and awesome swimming spot nearby. This is our 10th year away as a large group and this is our favourite location. Claire was the helpful host during booking, and Rob was the relaxed dude on arrival. Tarset Tor is not a palace, but it is perfect for large groups wanting to have a fun, chilled out break. We'll be back next year thanks very much Claire & Rob.

A wonderful stay

Excellent communication from Claire before our visit. Rob was friendly and helpful too. We had a brilliant weekend. Powerful hot showers. Tesco delivered food to the house. We were in the bunkhouse. After our stay, we enjoyed a day in Jedburgh on our way to Scotland

Excellent no other words necessary

We stayed at this hostel for two nights after completing the Hadrian's Wall Path. It is so refreshing to find an owner that takes such pride in building something is fit for purpose in every way. The buildings have been well though out and designed to not only look very attractive but work well. They are a very pleasant change from the normal low quality hostel found in the UK. We cannot recommend this hostel too much.

Graduation break away

Stayed at Tarset Tor in bunk barn in a group of about 25. The accommodation is basic however was equipped with everything we needed to sleep, eat and enjoy our time there. Make sure you take extra toilet roll if in big group!! This is probably best used as advertised for backpackers however we went as part of a short break away and was utilised as this without issue. Lovely outside area, plenty of parking, pool table, tv, shower (indoor and out!!!) and bar area with fire pit. Outstanding views to the side of the accommodation and peaceful atmosphere!

Tarset Tor replied: Really pleased you enjoyed your weekend. We get a lot of student groups, some of which are on their first time 'Bunkhouse' experience and it is ideal for a cheaper than 'the normal' get away. We have made the accommodation as comfortable as possible with memory foam mattresses and brand new seating, however we are what we are and the 4 rooms are all small dorms that sleep 5 in each, and have 3 indoor showers as well as the outdoor ones which are for persons using our sauna or our summer campervanners. Sorry you ran out of toilet roll you could of had more if you'd just asked. Thanks for your comments, we are always trying to improve our visitor experience and investing whenever viable to improve our business and quality of the facilities. See you for your next gathering you were a fun group!

My Best Friends 30th

We stumbled on Tarset Tor by accident whilst searching for places to stay for my best friends 30th birthday. We knew we wanted somewhere a bit rural, lovely views, clean and tidy and not too far away from home. What can I say, Tarset Tor ticks all of these boxes and so many more! We visited Monday to Wednesday in mid February. The first thing that hits you is the lack of phone signal / dodgy gps so finding the place was a little difficult but it didn't take us long to spot the beautiful Bothys. Upon arrival we found the pellet heater already burning and the place lovely and warm. perfect for a cold winters evening. The kitchen area is small but has absolutely everything you could ever need. The theme of Bothy 1 is lime green - sounds awful but works so so so well. Moving from the spotless kitchen into the living room we found a gorgeous wooden table and benches for dining and two comfy leather sofas in from of the fire and enormous patio doors. Once you have braved the stairs (steep and shallow - not for the faint hearted!) you will find two bedrooms each with their own shower room . Both bedrooms sleep 4 people in bunk beds but each bed has their own curtain to make things more private if you don't fancy your friends seeing you dribbling in your sleep! Rob (the owner and builder!) came to visit us around an hour or two after arrival to make sure we had settled in and had everything we needed. Top guy and beds over backwards to accommodate you and make your stay special. The whole place is absolutely beautiful and extremely clean. The views from the Bothy are utterly stunning, you really do feel like you are the only people for miles and miles. I cannot recommend this place enough to anyone and everyone. Can't wait to book our next trip, and this time it'll be for longer!
