Weekend with Friends

Jaytia, Nuneaton, Warwickshire
Stayed at Lambley last weekend and had a great stay! Jim the owner was really helpful both prior to and during our stay... recommending places to eat (and not eat!) and helping us organise horse riding locally.... 11 of us stayed in total (6 adults and 5 kids) and everyone loved the cottage..... the kids loved the toys / karts / trampoline in the garden and the adults loved the huge kitchen diner which was our focal point each evening.... The beds were comfy and clean and with 5 en-suites we had no cause for complaint... a brilliant time was had by all....! Sure..... It wasn't 5* as there were things that could be tidier, cleaner and just better looked after but Lambley is a huge site with a lot of maintenance requirements and if we had a real problem the owner dealt with it as soon as we mentioned it to him. Yes... the kids garden was messy and some of the toys old and battered..... the kids didn't care! Yes... the wood chip area with chairs and table by the hot tub was a bit of an eyesore.... its ok we didn't use them we used the huge table provided instead. My point would be that if I wanted to pick holes in EVERYTHING (and some reviewers clearly do) then I probably could.... however, I didn't pay a 5* price and therefore I didn't expect a 5* location or service! Lambley is lovely... great river walks, a hospitable host and a huge house with more utensils / pots / pans than you could ever need. If you are unsure... book it. You'll have a great time.

A fabulous getaway

I don't usually leave reviews but have to say that my family of 5 just spent a wonderful week in Shalom Cottage. The Cottage itself is charming, it felt homely, very comfortable and was adequately equipped for my family. Set in awesome landscape it is an amazing place for exploring - even my teens spent more time outside than in and my youngest loved the play area. We would definitely book again.

Dirty and dangerous

We stayed here for a week , sleeps 5 but only had 4 bowls, four folks, no oven trays, table chair used as a bedside table with a lamp on , dog hairs all over , ( so hadn't been cleaned from the last guests) a axe was right by the door so kids could of easily picked it up , my little girl ad cut all her back on the play area as it was all fallen to bits, no vac so you couldn't clean, toilet: had to wait half hour to flush it , all floors was creaking really bad, so woke everyone else, shower curtain was all mouldy Will not be returning!

Nice cottage, but self-catering aspect not as we hoped/expected

We stayed in Ghillies for 2 weeks. Location is nice, river very close. The cottage is very comfortable, nice barn conversion. Bedrooms good, bathroom functional & clean, good shower although the extractor fan was broken, no loo brush. Wifi internet was fast. Reason for the 3-star rating is mainly because we were doing real self-catering, cooking an evening meal every day and the equipment was really not set up to do that very well, especially for a place advertising itself as "luxury self-catering". There were 5 or 6 pans, but only one (the smallest) had a lid, so we had to buy foil to make one for larger pans. The two largest pans were non-stick, but all the implements were metal, so they were very scratched up. Not even a wooden spoon. No device to measure weight or volume of ingredients. The cooker worked OK, but the numbers around the dials were either faint or missing, so it was hard to figure out which dial for each part and where to set it. No oven glove, so we risked burning our fingers/hands - we had to use the thin tea-cloth folded over multiple times instead. Another disappointing aspect was that the pans, plates and cutlery were all rather dirty with caked on food/grease from previous guests, so we had to clean all that before we could prep or eat anything. This included a squashed chip between two of the dinner plates. Might have expected a dishwasher for a "luxury" experience. The advertised washer/dryer is actually only a washer. The other slight negative is that there are several cottages very close together and sometimes other guests were noisy until relatively late. All in all the cottage worked OK, we worked around the various issues and perhaps for the price its what we should have expected. My overall impression is this would be a good place to stay with kids, and if you aren't expecting too much from the cooking.

Lambley Farm Cottages replied: Thank you so much for bringing the missing over gloves to our attention ,the loo brush & pans have also been replaced,I would respectively request that guests in future immediately bring any s sues however large or small to our attention we do after all live within the courtyard & always do our utmost to attend to any matters quickly.Sadly in this instance & despite chatting to this particular guest a number of occasions during his 14 night stay ,not a single issue was brought to our attention,A little odd I find.KIND Regards & assuring all our guests of our " Best Endeavours "

Hidden gem - alpacas were amazing!

as a party of 12 ladies we found the coach house with hot tub amazing! The house has everything you need including toilet roll and towels! alpacas and a horse in the garden were a bonus, as was the hidden gem of the bbq hut which we christened the Fairy Hut as it was magical at nightime! Caretaker was very laid back and helpful. A great quiet (until we arrived) retreat away from it all - brilliant!
