Hidden Gem

JDWilliams2013, Wrexham, United Kingdom
After a 7 hour train having travelled from North Wales I was exceptionally pleased to arrive at this rather quaint Inn. Despite it being slightly off the beaten track it is definitely worth the trip. I was greeted by the manager who was extremely courageous. He recommended a perfect new world wine too! The rooms are impeccably furnished, spacious with beautiful bedding and high end en-suite. The food was very good but regrettably not exceptional. Rather small portions despite the fact I'm not a big eater. The hollandaise sauce, far too rich with my eggs benedict. The young man at breakfast almost seemed out of his depth. Other than that it's a fabulous hidden gem. It is exceptionally good value for money. Well done!

Pub with rooms

A very tastefully decorated and renovated (asylum) restaurant/pub with rooms. Our bedroom was excellent, lovely high spec ensuite and very clean. The bed was very comfortable and peaceful location. Breakfast was excellent and huge portions! On the down side- our sat nav did not locate the postcode or the address. The inn is not in Morpeth as specified. It is about 2.5 miles from the village of Stannington. So tricky to find. We had dinner on the first night and we're not impressed at all. Staff don't seem trained, we were told the fish fryer was broken therefore no fried fish. The menu is basic and none of us enjoyed our meal. We ordered strawberry icecream for our son, waited ages then to be told there was none left.....really unimpressed at this point. The food is on the pricey side as well. We cancelled our dinner reservation for the next evening. The food really let's the place down but not at breakfast, which was great. I would recommend this place but just go elsewhere for dinner.

Lovely stay at St Mary's

Stayed here 18 Feb for one night. I booked the Romance Package which seemed to offer the best value and included a deluxe room, bottle of fizz, dinner and breakfast. It was really easy to find, followed the tip on the booking confirmation about not following sat nav! Bar was busy when we arrived but the barman spotted us as soon as we got in and got us checked in quickly. We were in room 3, Catcleugh (spelling?) which was lovely, really spacious and looked out over to the church. The bathroom was huge with lovely towels and Aaron aromatic toiletries. We had a couple of drinks in the bar in the afternoon, the service was good and the atmosphere cozy. We ate in the restaurant and the food was truly delicious. The service was spot on, the restaurant had lots of nooks and crannies and feels relaxed. Had a lovely walk around on the Sunday morning before breakfast. I must say it's a shame that the housing estate is in such close proximity to the Inn, it takes off a bit of the shine but I think once the phase opposite is finished and the scaffolding is down from the church, it might look a bit better. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of continental offerings and also cooked to order items. They were a little slow on filling up juice/fresh fruit but then we weren't in any real hurry anyway. Check out was at 11 in the bar. Unfortunately I was presented with an invoice which did not take into account that I had already pre-paid for the package! This was a bit disappointing and the lady advised that their system doesn't show when guests have pre-paid? Time to upgrade your system then.... Issue was rectified but was avoidable so annoying. Anyway, to summarise, a pleasant stay with good food, drink and service, we shall return.

5* Hotel!!!

Andrea W, Clitheroe, United Kingdom
The hotel is welcoming and friendly, the bedroom was beautifully decorated and the wet room bathroom was amazing. We had a meal in the restaurant of rump steak cooked rare, it was very tender and with no fat or gristle at all. The breakfast was excellent with a vast range of freshly chopped fruit in the fruit salad. Everything was cooked to perfection including butter at the perfect spreadable temperature. Even the background music was at the perfect volume and good to listen to. Very highly recommended. We will come again.

First time for FOOD

Petersun55, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Our first visit for food. Its a little out of the way down country lanes but very inviting they even have dog beer. So your pooch does not miss out (Dog friendly in the bar area for food and drink) A good menu even if on the pricy side but in the gastro pub category. Still you expect to pay a little more for Top Quantity food. This is Top Quality. I had the Liver ordered Medium with bacon cabbage and mash. Cooked to perfection thank you chef. There was a selection of other tempting mains that means we will have to return and very soon. The place is warm ,friendly and with the log burning fires very cosy. Service Very good Wayne and the rest of the staff made our first visit memorable. This place has to be on your list for food we may stay over some time in the future as the reviews of he accommodation are as good as this one .
