Sunday lunch

Pathfinder59, Hexham, United Kingdom
This was our first visit since the refurbishment and we took friends, from the north of Scotland, out for lunch. We were impressed by the update, the place looks great apart from the door to the kitchen having a huge black patch at the bottom where it had been kicked open numerous times and the ladies toilet cubicles being extremely small and visible from the eating area when the outer door was opened. The welcome we received was nice and the food was excellent however we were sadly disappointed by the service. The person who took our order wasn't the same person who served it and when the food came one member of our party, who'd asked for a small portion, received a meal and then had it whisked away as 'it wasn't the correct one'. Lamb was delivered but the waiter wasn't sure what meat it was. There was a mix up with two other meals and although an apology was received, it was half hearted. The vegetables were shoved in between people with no "excuse me", to warn the customer of hot dishes being passed through and bearing in mind that we had an elderly, deaf person with us, we felt this was unprofessional. One waiter, who was extremely polite, placed small dishes of sauces onto other tables and left them there, but our waiter put two large dishes of cranberry and mint sauces on the table and stood over us whilst we put an amount on our plates and then asked if he could remove them and promptly put them on a side table. It was great to see the place busy but it was let down by the service. It won't stop us from going back though.

Superb stay ( in spite of the rain ! )

Keith S, Nottingham, England, United Kingdom
We visit this establishment regularly....... every 20 years ! 40 years ago it was a spit and sawdust walkers pub, 20 years later it was just the same, with it's stone cold flag stone floors in the bar, Hadrian would have probably remembered it fondly ! However this visit was totally different, someone has invested a lot of money to completely re-invent "The Twice Brewed". It has a brand spanking new look, 3 fires in the spacious bar, and warm, cosy bedrooms with all the necessary little extras that guests require. 10/10 for having proper mugs instead of teeny coffee cups for the early morning brew. The greeting we got was professional and friendly, we were shown to our rooms and found them very much to our liking. ( We were a party of ramblers on a 4 day visit to Hadrian's wall) . The meals we had were delicious and served quickly and cheerfully. The staff generally were very friendly and clearly very keen to ensure we had an enjoyable time. We make these 4 day midweek visits twice a year all around the UK, and have had excellent billets before but never has the accommodation, service, food, and general ambiance and desire to please come together so well as it did at The Twice Brewed. (Which incidentally has it's own brewery on site !) This is the first of such visits which having just returned tonight my wife and I have already agreed we must return again soon to develop our discovery of Hadrian's Wall. I would thoroughly recommend this hostelry to anyone who considers staying in the area.

Welcome rest

Howard W, London, United Kingdom
A perfect place to stay after a long walk along the Wall. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and even helped with washing our muddy walking gear. Good food, excellent breakfast, warm clean rooms. Micro brewery on site! Perfect and welcoming end to a long day. Highly recommended.

Lovely place but some of the staff should go

Adam W,
Stayed here for a couple of nights in September, it’s a really nice spot but the room was a lot too small, we had a group meal on the following evening, and the manager or lady in charge was rude, arrogant and obnoxious, it’s a shame as she spoilt the whole weekend for the group. When I spoke to some of the staff at the bar later about what had happened not one of them had a good word to say about her, and said not to worry, apart from this one member of staff This was a great place with great food and service, it only takes 1 in 10 people to spoil your weekend

Wonderful Inn

Kyllito, Austin, Texas
If visiting Hadrian's Wall and the surrounding historical sights, this was a wonderful inn to use as a home base. The rooms seemed newly remodeled and very comfortable. The inn had a wonderful Sunday dinner. The breakfast in the dining room was a great way to get the day started. And for those that were going to be sightseeing the entire day, they even offered a sack lunch the evening before that could be preordered, which we did. The staff was also one of the friendliest we had encountered on our trip. I would highly recommend staying at Twice Brewed Inn.

Twice Brewed Inn replied: Dear Kyllito, Thank you for taking the time to leave a good review of the Twice Brewed. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Hopefully we will get the chance to welcome you back in the near future. Best regards, Carla
