Glad it was open! Quick bite before visiting observatory.
Visiting Kielder observatory. Limited options for food pre visit and we didn't like look of pub in Kielder village. This place was open and we were expecting it to be awful but burger was surprisingly tasty and reasonably priced! Service not great and typical "carvery" atmosphere but it saved our bacon so can't complain.
Great place to visit
We stayed here at the start of this month for 4 days. What a lovely place to visit plenty of nice walks, dogs can stay. The boat inn offers good food and plenty choice. The log cabins are well equipped with great views. Hot tub a bonus. All staff very friendly. This was our second visit and will definitely be back. Would recommend going there for all ages.

visited kielder yesterday mainly to see the ospreys, but unfortunately the volunteer staff weren't there with their telescopes...but, nevertheless my husband has his own spotting scope so was able to pick them up in their nests for himself...we've been the last few years to view them so he knew roughly where they should be - and there they were sitting happily. Had lunch here at the boat inn and our table overlooked the lake (lovely) The young man who greeted and served us was really friendly and cheery which makes all the difference to me. Food is reasonably priced £5 for baked pot which is pretty well same as most places so not overpriced, but, as we both only wanted a baked potato and didn't want a dessert i can only comment on basics - I had the chilli topping (quite spicy) but it was fine...coffee is rijo which is a favourite of ours so that was a plus too Overall very pleasant
Excellent food and service
I was staying at the Leaplish lodges over the weekend, and ventured down to the Boat Inn on a few occasions. I initially had nachos with beef chilli, which was a sizeable portion and oozing with cheese. I returned on Sunday evening for a roast dinner, and was not disappointed. A sizeable plate of turkey, Yorkshire, potatoes, a separate plate of veg, and extra gravy - very tasty and filling. Only grumble was the veg was all greens, with no carrots or swede, but decent all the same. The drinks prices were reasonable, and Robert looked after us on every visit. Definitely recommend the place.
