All aboard for Go North East with British Masters Partnership

TRANSPORT provider Go North East has hit it off with a major sporting organisation as it gets set to arrive in Newcastle next week.

The British Masters supported by Sky Sports, at Close House in Heddon-on-the-Wall begins on Tuesday 25 September with an evening of golf and entertainment at the Hero Challenge – free for fans with tickets available here – followed by the Hero Pro-Am on Wednesday 26 September and main tournament from Thursday 27 September-Sunday 1 October.

Tickets have been in high demand with prices from just £15 and over the course of the event, it is expected that more than 13,000 spectators will turn out each day.

For five days beginning on 26 September, Go North East will be providing shuttles for golf fans and families from various pick-up points in the city centre for ticketholders.

The largest operator of bus services in the region, Go North East has been helping people get from A to B in the counties of Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Northumberland for 20 years and manages a fleet of 691 buses.

Mark Ellis, Go North East development manager, said: “The British Masters has been long-anticipated and now it’s just days away, so we’re really looking forward to being involved in all the action. I’m a fan of golf myself so I was thrilled to be able to partner up with the European Tour for this rare opportunity.

“The atmosphere is going to be buzzing in the region and it’ll be a pleasure to get visitors from near, far and wide to Close House in great British style and comfort.”

Rory Colville, championship director of the British Masters supported by Sky Sports said: “It has been fantastic to work with Go North East as our local transport partner. With the huge numbers of attendees, it’s incredibly important that everything is highly co-ordinated and means minimal disruption both in and around Newcastle city centre and the Close House local area.

“Mark and the team have gone above and beyond to facilitate our requirements and ensure travel to and from the event runs as smoothly as possible.”

Buses will leave from opposite Newcastle Central Station (Bewick Street stop), St Andrew’s Church on Newgate Street (for Monument Metro Station and Eldon Square Bus Station) and Barras Bridge (for Haymarket Metro & Bus Station), and then run non-stop via the A69 to Close House, dropping off a short walk to the tournament entrance. The first bus on each day will be at 6:30am and there will be regular departures until 11:00am, with buses returning from 2:00pm until 6:30pm.

Return fares will be £6 for anyone over 19 and £1 each way for 18s and under with Contactless payment being available on the bus. This service will be complimentary to all guests of The Westwood Pavilion and The Colt Pavilion, by presenting their ticket to the driver.
