Great stay

Claire C,
Beautiful accommodation, excellent rooms we booked two doubles. The place was warm, comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were really nice with big, cosy beds and excellent en-suite bathrooms. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal in the bar and hearty breakfast the next morning. I've nothing but praise for this lovely place. Thanks for a great stay!

Underwhelming. Poor beer that will hopefully improve when the new brewery opens

Tourist trap pub. Expensive food. Horrible poor cider choice. Real ale Beer choice limited and poorly kept. Service poor. Very little local character. A pub brewery is being built and will be open this year . Hopefully this will improve the beer.

Welcoming and comfortable, a real gem!

Linda R, Cleckheaton, United Kingdom
I stayed here with my dog for two nights last week in order to walk sections of Hadrian's Wall. So refreshing to find somewhere that not only makes you feel welcome but also your dog! The room was immaculate and very comfortable just right after a long days hike. The staff were friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much bother despite the fact that the Inn was extremely busy. The food was excellent! Very tasty and well presented. the Sewingshields Steak was delicious! They do cater for gluten free but could do with a few more options on the dinner menu for this as my friend only had the choice of two. However what she selected she said was beautifully cooked and tasty (Twice cooked belly pork), Others have commented on poor WiiFi and mobile connections - yes I experienced this but I am used to these problems when visiting more out of the way places and it certainly did not detract from my visit. So much so I shall be returning with my husband in the Autumn and will recommend the place to people. Thanks for a great stay.

Nice stay, but should have been better

The Good: We stayed here for 2 days while walking the Hadrian's Wall Path coast to coast due to it's proximity to the wall. The bar staff was awesome and overall very helpful. Rooms were recently refurbished. The bathroom was nice and big. Being able to soak sore muscles in a hot bath was definitely a plus. The Roman fort Vindolanda is nearby, walkable in about 35 minutes. The Not So Good: The restaurant was a complete mess! Service was extremely slow. Food was just average. Wait staff had to be asked several times before they brought what you needed. The wifi where our room was located was very slow-in fact...completely useless! The room was nice and clean but unfortunately a maintenance issue from the room adjacent to ours (the door would not close or lock) meant that when we were trying to rest after a long day's hike, instead we were treated to constant banging of the door-first by the guests, then by a steady stream of employees! After 2 hours of this on again off again banging, I finally went outside and asked if they wouldn't mind keeping the noise down. Their reply was, "The door won't lock properly." Yeah....so I've heard! I guess if a door won't close or lock properly, the thing to do would be to keep banging it until it does close properly! That being said, I am sure this wasn't something that happened everyday (one would hope) and overall our stay here was okay...just not as good as I'd hoped!

Lovely, friendly, pet friendly pub.

Nick R,
The bar staff were friendly and helpful. This carried over to the dining room also. The food was delicious. We enjoyed the roasted pork belly and a steak. This pub is a godsend after a long day hiking. The are also pet friendly.
