Check-in for night(s)

All year round - a star gazing and astronomy heaven! The Holly Bush Inn is located in the heart of Northumberland International Dark Sky Park.

We have the largest expanse of dark night sky in the whole of Europe, thanks to minimal light pollution. Winter nights are darkest and best for viewing deep sky objects such as galaxies, while in summer you can view the beautiful Milky Way, passing comets and shooting stars

We have 6 ensuite bedrooms (3 of them are suitable for families) and a self contained apartment which have been graded 4 star by Visit England. All rooms have good quality beds and linens, complimentary toiletries and hospitaility trays as well as free WIFI and flat screen TV's.

Our restaurant serves home cooked food sourced as locally as possible and we are open every night. The bar always serves local real ale and there is good choice of wine.

A drying room can be used by walkers and cyclists who have been caught out in the rain and laundry facilities can be made available. For cyclists or bikers there is also a secure ‘lock-up’ facility, bike frames and a hose for running repairs….

There is a log fire in the bar for cold days and nights and a great beer garden with panoramic views of the valley for sunny evenings and weekends.

New for 2014 will be a fire pit to keep our star gazers cosy....

A short journey away is Kielder with its many attractions including the fantastic Observatory and the largest man made lake in Europe. The Border Reiver country, Hadrian’s Wall and Alnwick Gardens are just a few of the places of interest which are all easily accessible.

All visitors to the Holly Bush always receive a warm welcome from the locals and often comment about their reception in their reviews. The chat and the ambience in the bar has been the highlight of many a short stay.

Lovely country pub

Emma L,
We went on Sat evening and had not booked but were able to get a table in one of the restaurants rooms. The food was good and we could have stayed for a few drinks in the atmospheric bar but we had the kids with us and had to get back

Not what we'd expected

The bedroom was nice and the shower room was lovely. The staff were very welcoming and always helpful. Our disappointment was in the size of the pub itself. We had envisaged cosy afternoons in comfy chairs with the newspapers but the bar was TINY so this was impossible. We used another local pub for this but then had to drive back which sort of defeated the object of staying in a pub! (Also must mention that the breakfast buffet was also the most disappointing out of around 10 other B&Bs we've stayed at in Northumberland)

Incredibly charming spot in the middle of nowhere!

I stayed here with my husband, mother-in-law and her sister last year. I had reserved two rooms for two nights, sight unseen. The rooms were great, with character and extremely comfortable beds. The food and beer were superb. We drove from here to Hadrian's Wall and were delighted to come back after a day of walking to a tasty meal. The owner was friendly and had a great sense of humor.

very friendly, great pub grub

Visited with my sons on a short family walking holiday to Kielder and called in for dinner. Lovely welcome from staff and other customers, mostly locals. Lovely open fire, homely, immediately felt at ease. Smallish menu, most of meals home made to order, typical pub grub but very well done, sentiments echoed by other diners. Good range of drinks, especially for small size of the establishment. Will call again when next in the area.

Great atmospherw

Second time staying there.great pub.staff very friendly.very helpfull.rooms very good and comfortable.only 20 mins drive to kielder water and dam. Locals make you welcome Very small intimate bar Definatley worth a visit and stay
