An unexpectedly good find

Sylvia H, birmingham england
We booked a night's accommodation here on our way further north without high expectations except a basic bed and breakfast. But were we pleasantly surprised?! The pub is in a delightful situation near the river, and the rooms are just beautiful. They are of a very good size, well appointed with a modern bathroom with excellent walk in power shower. The rooms we had were on the ground floor with just a short hop over to the pub. The food menu was good & not too large & 3 of us opted for the home made lamb & mint pie. It was one of the best pies I have tasted for a long time & they came with a large dish of fresh vegetables which is often sadly lacking in many restaurants. The breakfast too was of a good standard, freshly cooked to order with local produce. The staff we met were all delightful and looked after us very well. I can thoroughly recommend the Boatside if you find yourself near Hadrian's Wall and want a comfortable night's sleep and good food.

Needs veggie specials!

First of all, the great things! You can sit outside, pleasant country views and fairly speedy service. Decent car park too. Been coming for years. My only gripe is this - where are the veggie specials? I get handed a menu each time with lots of specials -but there is a HUGE meat bias. The last time I went there were no veggie specials and actually I have never seen one on the specials menu. There are so many choices for meat eaters in the main menu. Also on the main menu the usual fishcakes have been dropped! ( I eat fish sometimes ) There are veggie choices on the main menu, a bit un inspiring a selection. Can I suggest a veggie short crust pie with mushrooms or cheese and potato?

Comfortable surroundings with good food

Ian W,
Had an early evening meal here with wife & friend. Arrived before restaurant opened, but given positive reception & had to wait in bar briefly. Food order taken promptly with advice given for friend who has dietary problems. Soup served with warm crisp 1/2 baguette, excellent followed by 2 fish pies & grilled salmon, all very good other than vegetables served with fish pies ... sugar snap peas ok.. very chunky carrots..well? ...cabbage, not really! When bill came, the cost of the meals was given by the waitress which was slightly embarrassing as our friend was treating us. Nevertheless we will be back, Nice place!

Little gem

Our_Holidays, England
Husband and I was travelling back from a holiday in Scotland and we found this gem on the internet. We needed a room for the night that accepts dogs as we had ours with us. Fantastic accommodation, better than expected and the breakfast was good too. We didn't eat in the pub on the evening due to us having a late lunch but the food and menu looked good. We will be making a return later this year.

Absolutely fabulous pub, friendly and helpful staff.3 different rooms to eat in. We choose front room. Family dog fast asleep on floor. I had hot roast bun with the best chips ever(i don't usually eat chips)my other half had cold sandwich with salad and chips . absolutely great service and perfect pot of strong tea for me. Brilliant outside area too. Toilets were immaculate. Well worth a visit.👍
