Great Little Hotel

Stuart T, Chichester, United Kingdom
Very friendly little hotel. We had a spacious and well-furnished room with a nice bathroom. The room had a sofa and a decent television. Bottled water was provided every night, as were tea and coffeemaking facilities. The owners and staff were most helpful. The food was good and very moderately priced. Just the place to relax in beautiful countryside for a few days

Lovely break away

john g, Rugby, United Kingdom
Have just got back from a three night break in a family room at this pub / b&b. Food / staff/ owners friendly and helpful. Loved the English full breakfast. Very well presented and excellent quality, plus the choice of juice / cereals / fruit / youghurts as well if you can manage it. For the light sleepers you may want a room at the back as the road noise can be a bit intrusive but nothing too major. Room facilities are fine with tea/ coffee/ biscuits and water replenished daily. You could say the room is a little dated but not an issue to us as it was clean and functional. Plenty of parking. Great view. Kielder is truly a fantastic area to esplore. Would not hesitate at all coming back here again.

Boil in the bag

PaulnVikki, Northumberland, United Kingdom
Having eaten here on numerous occasions and always found the menu to be varied and the food excellant we decided to call in for a late Sunday lunch on 28th May. I opted for the roast leg of lamb and my partner the roast pork. The bar area was quiet and therefore our food arrived promptly. First impressions were just how small the portions were and at £8.95 and £9.95 respectively not the cheapest. Both meals consisted of a smattering of boiled lifeless cabbage, 2 x pieces of carrot, one new pot cut in half along with 3 miniature roast pots cooked to the point they were so hard they were inedible. The lamb had the appearance and taste of a boil in the bag meal and had most certainly not been cut from a roast joint! Overall the food was dry and lukewarm and therefore I returned mine immediately informing the waitress, she apologised but was clearly not interested. My partner ate the majority of her meal after a long day at work but also complained on how poor the food was with little or no response. We paid the £18 bill for 1 x meal and 2 drinks after the cost of my meal was deducted leaving without any form of apology other then a clearly facetious remak of "by" by one of the two young staff sitting idle by the bar as we walked out and she assumed we were out of earshot. We hadn't seen any of the staff on duty that day before and can only wonder whether the pub has changed hands in light of the quality of service and food. We will not be returning!

Redesdale Arms replied: Dear PaulnVikki, We received an email from Trip Advisor this morning congratulating us on our Certificates of Excellence for 2017, for both our restaurant and accommodation listings, of course we were thrilled! That was short lived when I saw your review just minutes later, although I did know about your complaint, as I was told when I returned to work on Sunday night. I apologise if your complaint was not dealt with to your satisfaction, and if the food was not up to our usual standard but I understand that you were offered an alternative meal, which you refused so we didn’t charge. The Redesdale Arms hasn’t changed hands and the menu is still varied albeit slightly shorter on Sunday because we serve home cooked roasts all day, (not boil in the bag – is there even such a thing?). I am sorry you won’t be returning, especially as you say you have been here on numerous occasions and found the food to be excellent! Regards Carrol
