Warm Welcome and Enjoyable Meal

robric1, Durham, United Kingdom
We have driven past this pub without stopping on many occasions. Today we decided to try it out. We had an evening meal with drinks. We received a warm wlecome on our arrival. The lounge/dining area is fresh and very tastefully decorated with some nice artwork on the walls. The real ale - Golden Plover - and the red wine were both excellent. The food was hearty and very enjoyable. Overall it was good value for money. We will return.

Warm welcome and lovely home cooking

Graham C, Leicester, United Kingdom
Very nice accommodation with friendly welcome, real ale and excellent home cooking. I stayed there on a whistle stop on business and was very satisfied. All depends on what you want. It's in the middle of nowhere which I found lovely, excellent views and if you like a good scenic walk this would be ideal.

Nice place to stay

neiljaffa, Scarborough, United Kingdom
We stayed here for 3 nights on a midweek offer. Clean & comfy rooms, good facilities and WiFi , nice breakfasts and very quiet with nice views from the front rooms. We had a bar meal one night we were there which was very nice as well.

Redesdale Arms replied: Dear Neiljaffa, Thank you for taking the time to review the Redesdale Arms. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back again. Regards Carrol & Mark

A few nights in Northumberland National Park, a designated 'Dark Sky' area.

valdowding, Solihull, United Kingdom
Review by Val D. The hotel stay was lovely. Mark and all his team are so friendly, helpful and efficient, nothing is too much trouble. The food is fab - a great breakfast every morning, and we had a delicious dinner every evening; whatever you choose it is very good. Wonderful views of the countryside from the hotel, and indeed everywhere we went. Kielder Water and Forest is a large area. We went early in the year to this area of Northumberland, so many more places/facilities will be open later on. We booked Kielder Observatory for the evening of my husband's birthday. These events run from 8pm until 11pm, and are very popular. It was too cloudy to see stars through their telescopes that evening, but we did get good views of the moon's craters. The team there gave us a very interesting evening, including an excellent talk on 'Stars', and mugs of warming hot chocolate! We recommend these evening events, but they are very popular so book early. The coast at Alnmouth Bay is lovely. The nearby small town of Rothbury is worth visiting. National Trust properties we visited were Cragside and Wallington, both excellent. Just up the road from the hotel is the sight of the Battle of Otterburn, 1388, where Scots battled with the English. It is a poignant place to visit, and there is a commemorative Battle Stone erected there. A highlight was stopping off on the A1, on the way home, to see The Angel of the North - great photo opportunity, and very impressive. We hope to re-visit this area and hotel again.

Redesdale Arms replied: Dear Val, Thank you for your lovely review of the Redesdale Arms. I'm delighted you were able to experience some of Northumberland's wonderful history and a taste of our fantastic dark skies. It was lovely to meet you and your husband and we look forward to welcoming you back again. Regards Mark

Heartwarming and beautiful

deehillfield, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
We had a great time on Valentine's night at Redesdale Arms. To be honest, none of us really cared about a fancy food spread when we booked, just wanted to enjoy the drive through Northumberland, breathe in some fresh air and get away from the city for a night. But what we found was more than that : welcoming atmosphere, lovely homemade food and a jukebox that just made us want to stay longer! Our room was warm, clean and spacious, even if it wasn't luxurious (think we got a family one, instead of the double we booked!). The host was lovely and caring, the food was simple but very well made. We didn't try the Valentine's menu, although it seemed like a great deal, mainly because I wanted the haggis :) You have to try their terrine of the day if you're there, mine was chicken liver parfait and it was wonderful, as well as quite filling. My partner had the steak, and I had, of course, the haggis and both were perfectly seasoned ( we do like our strong tasting notes, so we enjoyed intense pepper sauce for the steak and mustard/vinegar for the haggis). Fast, friendly service and we got both local ales and a few nice things on keg - Portland APA and some Tontine by Camerons. Then we had a few games of pool and took over the jukebox for a bit in the adjacent Bar Room and it was , well, just nice :) Breakfast was spot on, with fresh selection of juices, a fresh pot of filter coffee and some cornflakes waiting for you downstairs. The host didn't mind bringing up a croissant brekkie tray for my other half as he was still asleep. Great places to walk around, fresh air and if it weren't for the oh so annoying fog on that night, we could have done some spectacular stargazing in the area. Kielder Forest and Water are about 35 min away, you should make the effort to check it out, even if just for a drive, it's beautiful and relaxing. Would go back anytime, and thank you everyone that hosted us so well. :)
