Andy, Sue and Staff welcome you to the Red Lion at Newbrough, an old coaching inn dating back to the 1190's that has been brought back to the 21st century whilst maintaining all the charm of a countryside bed and breakfast with its log and coal burners and comfortable chairs. Relax and enjoy local real ale, fine wines or other beverages available from the well-stocked bar. We have two restaurants; the Stable and Beattie's, both have log fires and a homely atmosphere. We offer a selection of freshly made food with a twist; the Red Lion prides itself on providing very high quality delicious food. The menu is season and the produce is locally sourced, our cod and mackerel are caught off the Seahouses and Beadnell coast only an hours drive away and well worth a visit.

Andy has been a professional chef for more than twenty years in many fine establishments gaining 2 rosette accolades, you can be sure of the highest quality food and service here. Breakfast is served in the Stable restaurant from 8:30 until 9:30 am, lunch from 12-2 pm evening meals from 6-9 pm Tuesday to Saturday (during winter months till 8 pm Tuesday to Thursday).

Our new Stanegate room which is situated in part of the pub has recently opened to celebrate all things local, it represents local history along with lots of craft and artwork by local residents and showcases for new and developing local talent.

The Red Lion enjoys a scenic location in the picturesque village of Newbrough four miles from Hadrian's Wall. The historic town of Hexham is close by with its lovely Abbey. If you fancy a spot of shopping, Newcaslte, Gateshead and Carlisle are only a 30 minute drive away. Northumberland is a wonderful county with many unspoilt areas of outstanding natural beauty. One night stay

_kenjlloyd, Southampton, United Kingdom
Very friendly staff and really helpful, The room was exceptionally clean throughout, comfortable bed, free WiFi if needed.Choices of evening meal at reasonably prices. Full english breakfast superbly cooked and presented.I would certainly recommend.

Had a lovely night away with my hubby. The breakfast is amazing. Hubby had a full breakfast, I had almost a full breakfast but minus the black pudding and fried bread. We also had an evening meal which was delicious. We shared potato skins then both had the ribeye steak, cooked beautifully and the chips were amazing. Unfortunately neither of us had room for pudding ☹️. Warm friendly welcome, will definitely be back for food and possibly stop over again at some point. 😊

Lovely friendly establishment

We stopped here whilst visiting family in the area. Really couldn't fault the place and will be back again. Room was lovely, very comfy bed and loads of pillows. Orla Kiely hand wash, cream, body wash and shower wash was a luxury. We didn't eat as we were eating with family but the menu looked appetising and the restaurant was very cosy with an open fire. We had a top notch breakfast in the restaurant that set us up for the day. Unfortunately our baby was unwell on this visit and the owner couldn't do enough to try and help us out.

Everything a good pubs made of

We visited on Sunday for lunch as a party of 9 a mixture of adults and children. Two of the party had black pudding starters and said they were delicious. We all had Sunday lunch, turkey, pork and lamb were had on our table and each was delicious. The food was delicious and well cooked the only criticism were the roast potatoes that were a little disappointing. To top off the food the staff were absolutely lovely friendly, helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our family meal out.

Warm welcome

We stayed here for 5 nights exploring the area. We were made to feel very welcome by Sue and Andy and their team and the locals were very friendly giving us suggestions as to places we should visit. Rooms were very comfortable with little touches like cotton wool and tissues and plenty of mirrors (ladies reading this will understand this is good!) food was superb - definitely restaurant standard. We certainly hope to return one day and would recommend a stay here.
