Amazing views

Flashmom, Richmond, Virginia
quick points: (pros) >> Comfortable; Spacious; Gorgeous Views; >> Close to shopping and boat tours; >> Good restaurant; well stocked pub; >> Friendly staff. (cons) >> Promised room "unavailable" at the last minute; >>Very limited electrical outlets; >> Tight parking. We chose this quaint inn because of its association of the "Inn Collection Group." After a problem with our reservation, we checked in anyway. My husband had booked two rooms over a month ago, and received a confirmation. The afternoon before we were to check in, he received an email saying that the promised room did not exist, but a different room would be, and at a different rate. No excuse was given. The inn itself was a cozy, and comfortable. The restaurant/pub served good food and was well stocked. I felt the parking was a little tight, but we managed. (Parking later in the day was much easier.) It is close enough to walk to the Co-op (grocery), Boots (the pharmacy) and many other "tourist-y" shops. The real highlight for me was the breathtaking view of the tiny harbor, and the vast North Sea. Our room, #33, had an outdoor patio--which would have been nice, had it not been so "cold" and windy. ("Cold" is relative when coming from the Southern US!) The restaurant too, had an outdoor sitting area. Our daughters' room was in, what I'd call, the attic. However, it too was comfortable and spacious with a seaside view. Our room, overlooked the harbor with its brightly colored fishing boats, and on one uncharacteristically clear morning, we could see the Bamburgh castle, the Farne Islands (one of which we toured last year to see the Puffins!), and Lindisfarne in the far distance. I'm amazed at the drastic tidal change, which when low, showed more of the islands toward the island with the Puffins, and put the boats in the harbor in the mud. I'll say the **biggest** downside was the lack of electric outlets. Outlets in the UK are generally twice the size of those in the States, so there is only one plug per outlet. Our room had only two accessible outlets, with one being under/behind the desk. Charging anything was a challenge, let alone using a CPAP machine!! Even with the negatives, the view redeemed this little inn.

Great food, lovely beer garden.

karen l, Manchester, United Kingdom
Everytime we visit Bamburgh or Seahouses we never fail to go here. Lovely large pub, with a dog friendly area (which we like as we normally have the dog) inside and a large beer garden overlooking the harbour of seahouses. The food is lovely, good sized portions and at a very competetive price. Love just having a lunch outside in the beer garden after a long walk along the beach from bamburgh.

Sea views

SpeakerToAnimals, manchester
We stayed in room 20, which has a balcony with a great view of the sea and harbour. Two nights, and the breakfast with local bangers was great. Staff helpful and courteous. But just a few minor niggles. Would have been nice to have some more specials (more local fish, and not just cod or scampi). There was one (hopefully) local fish special (crab salad) but this ran out by the second night. Given that the inn is on the harbour, sourcing local fish shouldn't be a problem. And something OTHER than chips or potatoes? A bit annoyed that when I asked for mixed veg rather than potatoes, I had to pay for the veg AND the potatoes, even though I didn't have the potatoes. Other places do a straight replace when asked. Finally, the rooms are in need of some REPAIRS. For example, the sealing strips around the glass shower door in the bath (vertical and horizontal) both fell out whenever you opened the door. This became rather tedious, having to carefully slide them back on every time you wanted to use the shower. The glass on the bed side table wasn't fitted with the usual plastic bumps, so just slid on the wooden surface underneath (NOT the greatest when there is a table lamp and possibly a cup of tea on top at the time!). Paper bath mats were provided when requested, BUT they slid on the bath, the more usual plastic or rubber mat with sucker feet would have done much better. Okay, the harbour view through the opened bathroom louvre window is great, but not when you're being distracted by the fact that your feet keep slipping! These are only little things BUT really annoying when everything else is so nice. This place just needs a little more attention to detail, else it is in danger of taking customer satisfaction for granted based on the location alone. Oh, and the internet only works in the bar...................

Carvery

Laura T, North Shields, United Kingdom
The Sunday carverys here are the best!! We had something from the main menu a while back and it wasnt great so we only ever visit when the carvery is on. Everytime we are in the area we revolve our Sundays around a visit here.

A wonderful harbour view

tangemara, Derby, United Kingdom
Ideally situated overlooking the busy Seahouses harbour and across to the Farne Islands. The food is moderately priced and there is a good choice on the menu as well as the daily specials. The Sunday carvery is also good value. Breakfasts and lunch menu also provided
