Simple things done well

I rarely go to eat at places I know nothing about but we were on our way to the keilder forest observatory , wanted some dinner and had planned nothing. So we saw this place and thought we'd give it a go. The title 'inn and creperie 'makes it sound a bit twee but in fact it's nothing of the sort..The building is reputedly very old but it has been sympathetically modernised into a spacious restaurant with a pleasing ambiance. The staff were friendly, efficient and obliging. We had fish and chips, sausage and mash, a crepe stack and a warm salad. Whilst it may not sound terribly exciting everything was in fact delicious with good attention to detail. So as an example instead of a rather standard onion gravy the sausages were accompanied by a light shallot based sauce. We all agreed in our praise and advised the staff accordingly when we left.

Very nice dog friendly place. Good selection of alcohol, even better selection of food although both very expensive. Dogs are allowed all over and can sit with you whilst eating. Very Good

Welcome break from driving home!

Laura D,
We were driving home to Newcastle from Edinburgh and stopped off here mainly because we were all starving, however the food was so fantastic we may make sure we pass by again! The kids menu was very good value with really high quality food! My little girl especially liked the sticky toffee pudding. I have the pork lion with black pudding and mash which was lush and my husband had a very sizeable fish and chips. What made it was the very lovely staff. Very attentive. Our waitress a petit blonde lady (sorry didn't catch her name) was so lovely. Had a chat without intruding and made sure we had everything. A friendly service was just what we needed! Thanks!

Evening pub meal

We were staying in an AirBnB cottage in the village so walked here for dinner - they kindly squeezed us in and were clearly busy catering to the arrival of a bridal party for the wedding venue next door who had all gathered in the bar and generated some considerable noise. Although the meal was generally good and the food nice there were a few downsides: 1. The menu was really wintry - game casserole not something I would expect to see on a menu in May. There was little option of lighter/more summery dishes available. 2. Desserts - they make a big thing of having a creperie - I had the rocky road crepe for dessert. This turned out to be a crepe rolled up with a few bits of broken shortbread and a load of cream inside and then drizzled with cheap chocolate ice cream sauce and a few mini marshmallows on the side - a bit lacklustre considering they were charging £5.25 for it. 3. Service was slow - no doubt because they were so busy. However this meant that my daughter's starter came at the same time as her main course and I had to wait half an hour between ordering dessert and it arriving. We had recently visited another pub run by the same company and had a wonderful meal. Whilst there was nothing bad about the William de Percy it just didn't wow me and I wouldn't necessarily bother returning if in the area.
