The Hideaway Suite

Kelly M,
I travelled up here with my family (4 of us in total) for a 6 night stay in the Hideaway. We had stayed here previous years and it had been of good standard, hence why we returned. We come up every year to visit family members. There is only one bedroom in the whole apartment, and that contains a double bed, TV, a wardrobe and an en-suite. It is important to note that the en-suite contains a bath and a shower (all in one) and it is the only bathroom in the apartment that contains washing facilities. The en-suite is small, and a little cramped, the shower is quite low so it can be hard to stand up in without hitting your head on the ceiling (my dad described it as "a gorilla washing in a puddle). Hot water is also very slow to come through and it can take up to 40 minutes to run a bath. Other than that, both the en-suite and other bathroom toliets and sinks are clean and tidy. The main living area in the apartment is big, and is a good living space. It come complete with a washing machine, fridge, microwave but, unfortunately, no dishwasher. One of the sofas can be pulled out to become a sofa bed (a double), but it is not the comfiest of beds and can be harsh on the back at times. As there were 4 of us, a camp bed was placed just beside the table and chairs complete with a mattress, duvet and pillows. The camp bed was a lot more comfortable and easy on the back than the double bed, but neither were as comfortable as the actual double bed in the bedroom, but that is to be expected. Location wise, it was perfect. A easy car park located just seconds away from the suite so there was no long walks with luggage, and more importantly it was only a couple of minutes walk into the centre of Wooler with pubs such as The Black Bull and the Angel located so close, there was no need to worry about driving. Also located close was the local co-op to stock up on food, along with take aways and shops such as The Chocolate Box. All in all, it is a good place to stay if you have a family greater than 3 people and you are only using the apartment as a hub.

Great pub. Very welcoming with good choice of beers and cider etc. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly locals. Had drinks here every night of our 4 day return visit to Wooler. Will definitely be back again.

Dinner for 2

Lovely find for traditional home cooked food. Good selection of beers and larger at very competitive prices. Steak n ale pie was as nice as I have tasted anywhere and ALL the accompanying vegetables were fresh not frozen and cooked perfectly. My wife chose the lasagne that was also homemade and served with homemade chips not frozen ones. Lovely traditional English pub, great friendly service and children are welcome. A couple sat to our left ordered the fish n chips and when it arrived the fish was the full length of the plate and looked delicious so we will be back whilst on our vacation. If you're in the area don't miss the opportunities to call in.

Lovely old pub

Stayed here for one night whilst road tripping around Northumberland. Large old pub with very welcoming staff. Had room 8 2 single beds, small but perfectly formed, nice and clean and a modern bathroom, and very quiet. Breakfast was lovely, hot, fresh and plentiful.

I was amazed by this pub.

hazel d,
On a Tuesday night this pub was buzzing, filled with locals and holiday makers enjoying a drink and/or a bar meal. The menu had lots of tempting offers but I went for the fish and chips. They were the best fish and chips I have ever had, quite astonishingly good. It seems the the chef and her assistants worked very hard to ensure that everything that came out of the kitchen was excellent. I had a trifle for pud and that was great too. I wish we'd stayed there as well as eating there. I can't wait to go back. What a discovery.
