A Victorian country hall in extensive grounds overlooking the North Tyne river and Dunterley Fell. Award-winning restaurant with Les Routier Gold Plate and AA rosette. Real ale, log fires and candlelit dinners. A warm, friendly atmosphere. Although undoubtedly Northumbria's premier sporting hotel with its sought after salmon beats, cricket and football field and indoor swimming pool it is also the nearest hotel to Kielder Water, is opposite Bellingham's renowned golf course and handy for walking on Hadrian's wall, the Pennine Way and Kielder Forest! But, still well over half of the hotel's guests are tourists out to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Northumberland's National Park and sample the hotels widely respected food and hospitality.

Had a 2 night break here and found it very pleasant. The room was clean and comfortable and decent size in the main building. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was amazing throughly enjoyed the food both the evening meal and breakfast.

Very welcoming hotel

This was our second visit to this hotel. We like to bring our little dog with us and this hotel is very dog friendly. The garden rooms are ideal for dog owners as you have access directly to the grounds for walkies. The staff are more than happy to set up a table in the bar for breakfast time so your doggy friend can come with you. You have access for good walks from the hotel grounds too. The food and service at the hotel is very good all the staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing seems to be too much trouble, it all makes for a very relaxing break. The bedrooms are modern the hotel itself is more traditional in style. The local village is a short walk where you will also find a very warm welcome. Will definitely be returning

Shabby, poor customer service

Debra n,
We stayed one night in Bellingham as I had a running competition near by, so wanted a bit of relaxation in pleasant surroundings afterwards. Sadly, this did not happen and we were very disappointed by Riverdale Hall. Firstly, we had booked a table for the evening meal when we booked the room. However, three days before our visit we had a phone call saying the booking should not have been taken as there was a large birthday party that night. They also said we would be staying in a quieter part of the hotel. The lack of food being served was pretty inconvenient as we had little choice when booking elsewhere. When we arrived at the hotel we were told we were in one of the apartments rather than in the main hotel to be away from the noise. This was not of the standard expected of the rooms in the hotel from the website or photos. The carpets were stained and walls all needed re-painting. The shower head was broken and could not be fixed in a position other than straight down to the taps. The hairdryer must have been at least as old as me! We asked if it would be possible to change rooms, but the hotel was booked out. We were not offered an apology and were charged full price, which for what we wanted was not good value for money. Breakfast was underwhelming. I fully understand the difficulties presented by a large party for the hotel but our disappointing experience was not helped by the staff's general attitude. The hotel could also have made it known about the difference in standard between the hotel's rooms and its apartments, which were really more suited to a self-catering large family plus dog, than a couple.

Family Dinner

Went here with a family of 12 for an evening meal. The staff were very attentive, accommodating and the service was excellent. We were seating through in the conservatory which was nice and private. EVERYONE enjoyed there meal. Bar menu prices are reasonable and the food is excellent. I would definitely return here again and definitely recommend.
