Horton Grange Country House Hotel is situated in the beautiful heart of Northumberland, yet remains just a ten minute drive from the City Centre. We have 9 bedrooms, 5 of which are traditionally decorated in the main grade-II Listed House, and 4 in our more contemporary annexed Stable block.
We also have an award winning Restaurant which is open 7 days a week for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

This was a back up hotel on a trip from Scotland. Strictly this was a relatively last minute change of destination and hotel. The room occupied was a so called Garden Flat which meant we were not situated in the main building. There was enough space and there was a vestibule area to leave cases and bags. Dining was either in he hotel restaurant restaurant (I thought the menu pricey) or a meal in the bar which was what we opted for in the end. The food ordered was well prepared and tasty. Most enjoyable. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and there was a considerable choice available. All in all a good experience. Some have complained about the availability of WIFI, but I had no problem connecting through my smartphone in the room. Best of all is that for accommodation provided the price was very acceptable.
Lovely countryside Hotel, very polite staff.
Beautifully home made afternoon tea. The cakes were delicious and there was an amazing variety of scones. The staff were really polite, nothing being too much trouble. We are definitely planning to return for Sunday lunch as we spotted the huge Yorkshire Puddings being served with Sunday lunch, which looked delicious.

Afternoon Tea, as we experienced it, was poor. The sandwiches were dry on one side. In the half scotch egg the egg and the meat had separated and the meat was floppy. The scones were hard, as if they were some days old. When we asked for more tea to drink, warm water was added to the pot to make a weak concoction. Poor value compared with other nearby places.
Disappointing birthday meal
We had called in here for a cream tea some months earlier and liked the ambience of the lounge so thought it would be worth a try for dinner. On arrival we were given a seat in the bar area, not as nice as the lounge, and provided with menus. We didn't want pre-dinner drinks so it was nice that we were brought a jug of water. We were soon shown to our table in the dining room which was virtually empty. Only one other table was occupied although another couple and then a rather noisy group of four arrived later. The dining room and tables appeared bare. We had a glass with one tulip in it and the next table had a rose but these were the only flowers. A table nearby hadn't been cleared and the others had not been laid giving a rather unprepared atmosphere. The background music was barely audible - we don't like loud music but some sound was needed with so few people. On the plus side, the food was very good. We were given a small canapé to start with but then no bread was put on the table although we could see that other tables had been given a bread basket. I asked the waitress if bread was provided only when ordering a starter and she apologised, saying we should have been given some. We had ordered a salad but instead were served potatoes and this was several minutes after the arrival of our food. We of course had to wait again for the salad. I ordered sticky toffee pudding which was very good but it came only with its butterscotch sauce. When the waiter asked if everything was OK I said it was good but would have been nicer with some ice cream. He then promptly went to to get me some, which was much appreciated. But I can't understand why ice cream needs to be requested. Another couple had a problem when they were served with their main course before their starter. With so few people it is hard to understand how this could happen. We decided to have some tea in the lounge which is a very pleasant room to relax in. Although I saw some chocolates being brought out of the kitchen these were unfortunately not for us so nothing to go with our tea, not even a chocolate mint. As previously stated we did enjoy the food and the staff were friendly and helpful but the overall experience was not as expected. There are many areas that could be improved.
Ok for a night but would not stay longer

This is a hotel way off the beaten track, so OK if you are wanting to be outside the City. Was in the garden rooms which are quite small and dated. The bathroom needs updating with shower and basin fittings not secure, everything a bit cramped. Service checking on was slow, I had to find someone to check me in. Not their fault there is very little mobile signal, there is wifi but phone signal awful. Breakfast OK but quite slow and I was the only guest having breakfast at the time. So one and only visit to this hotel.
