Very good base for exploring Northumberland

Lynne P,
A group of 18 of us stayed D,B&B for three nights. The rooms were comfortable, clean and all en-suite. The meals were excellent although service at breakfasts was a little slow. There was no difficulty in providing me with gluten free meals.I was asked to take my own cereal for breakfast. I stayed in one of the hotel's self catering cottages across the road. It was very well equipped, comfortable and the decor was well chosen. The hotel is in a quiet location conveniently placed for the local shop and to access the beautiful coast.

Good base for exploring the Northumberland coastline

Colin C, Sedbergh, United Kingdom
Last month we spent an enjoyable 5 night stay at this hotel, whilst enjoying lovely coastal walks in the area. Having booked online a couple of weeks in advance, we were greeted with a warm welcome when we arrived at around 5pm. Room 3 was situated over the front of the hotel. Not too large a room but perfectly adequate, with ample storage space. The bathroom was also not too large, but well equipped - with a flexible shower and a bath, very welcome on a walking holiday ! The high towel rail and wardrobe clothing rail would not be easy to reach for those of a shorter stature. We went down to the bar to enjoy a drink in the bar prior to our evening meal. Slightly disappointed that Guinness was not available, also a limited selection of wines, but there were some good local real ales on offer. We were not particularly happy to read that the beautifully refurbished lounge is specifically for dogs (and their owners) ! Along with smoking, we believe that dogs should not be allowed in hotels, unless a limited number of rooms are specifically allocated for this purpose. The restaurant was very busy when we entered at 7pm, and we were pleased to have pre-booked a table. We each enjoyed 2 courses, with a nice bottle of wine (the wine list in the restaurant is much more extensive). On subsequent nights there were no specials on the board, and not all main courses were available - it would have been nice to have been told in advance. When we dined in the hotel on our last night, there were new special dishes on offer. Although our room overlooked the main road, there was little traffic and there was good double glazing, making for a good night of peaceful sleep. Breakfasts were very good, with hot food made to order and promptly served. Very friendly breakfast staff. Working out at more than 130 pounds per night (B&B rates) it was not a cheap stay, but this hotel does provide an excellent base to explore the lovely coast of North Northumberland.

Pleasant mid-week break

JWNorfolkUK, Swaffham, United Kingdom
I booked to stay at this hotel a fortnight ahead. It took a while to get the booking confirmed. When I arrived I had a long wait to get anybody to check me in. From then on it just got better. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was above expectations and there were some good local ales served in the bar. For the first night I had a single room which was reasonably spacious and had an airy bath/shower room. The next two nights I had a double room that was fairly cramped. The bathroom had no natural light and I found it annoying having to wait for the energy-saving bulbs to muster up enough strength to let me see clearly. Also, the shower in that room was a little weak. But these are minor points and overall I had a very pleasant stay and ate very well.

Lovely welcome

Pam A, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
My husband and I had not booked but thought we would call in when in the area this week. We were met with a very warm welcome all of the staff were friendly and helpful (a big difference after a couple of places we have called into and walked out of recently). The food was fabulous and reasonably priced. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We will certainly be recommending to our holiday guests at Fineview Cottages.
