Long weekend

Vladius, Perth and Kinross, United Kingdom
I Recently visited this hotel for a long weekend (3 nights) with family and friends. We stayed in the self-catering cottages adjacent to the main hotel. We ate in the restaurant twice. The food was well cooked and well presented, and the menu contained a wide variety of traditional and modern dishes. On our second meal, I had the pleasure of eating poached chicken stuffed with chorizo in a broad bean broth which was delicious. The service was efficient and the staff very pleasant. My only suggestion would be to make the dining room a little less formal. Whilst tablecloths and linen napkins are elegant, there is a time and a place for them. Also at the end of the meal we were asked (rather abruptly) to vacate the dining room so the staff could set up breakfast. We had only just got our coffee when this happened. In future, I would suggest that diners are given the option of taking coffee in the lounge or bar when ordering. Having worked in hospitality myself, I know for a fact that if given this option, roughly 90% of diners will choose to take coffee in an alternative location. Our accommodation was very comfortable and contained everything you would need should you wish to eat in. We had an evening meal in the cottage the second night and had breakfast there every morning. Perhaps some of the appliances could be updated. For example, the toaster, fridge and kettle did not work as well as they should. On the whole however our stay was very pleasant and we will certainly consider the hotel again.

Beautiful location and great small hotel

NorfolkFlora, Norfolk
We stayed here twice in one week as a break on the journey to and from the British Women's Open Golf in Scotland. Both stays were very enjoyable with comfortable rooms and great food in the restaurant. All the public rooms have a contemporary feel that we very much liked although the restaurant itself would probably benefit from a lighter/brighter colour scheme. Staffing levels are good and the hotel feels calm and professional but best of all are the young serving staff who have been clearly well trained and seem genuinely keen for you to have a great experience. All in all, a well run hotel with friendly and smiley professional staff, great food and comfortable rooms. Well done!

A lovely village hotel with excellent food.

This is a very attractive village hotel. The rooms are comfortable but unexceptional. However, the lounges and dining room have been refurbished to a high standard. The food is excellent with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. Service is good without being pretentious or fussy. The atmosphere is relaxed - just what you need on a break - and being able to walk to the stunning beach felt wonderful.

Visited for dinner only.

We holiday nearby regularly and always eat here on our last night. The food is consistently excellent and there's a great range of vegetarian food. The chocolate brownies have to rate amongst the best we've ever had. Service efficient and friendly. The hotel is refurbishing in sensible stages and we hope they won't have to hike the prices too much as a result. There's a dog-friendly lounge and - joy of joys - not a note of that modern scourge - piped music. Just beautiful silence so you can hear each other talk. (Except the evening we there, there was a rather garrulous individual holding forth in the next room entertaining the whole establishment - and we now know a lot about everything in the world. Local colour I suppose and put-uppable with!!)

Lovely food & friendly staff

JCCDurham_UK, Durham, UK
Stayed here for a weekend with our dog. The hotel is in a good position between Low Newton and Craster - if you are looking for a walking holiday it is ideal. It is dog friendly although dogs are not allowed in the bar or dining rooms. We were able to eat in the dog friendly half of the hotel lounge which although quiet was nicely decorated and comfortable. The food is excellent -local fish and meat as well as lovely vegetarian options which is often not the case. The vegetarian breakfast was fab. The staff were all friendly and service was good. The only reason I have not given it 5 stars is the room. The room we were in was very dated with carpet that has definitely seen better days. I am not sure if this was because we were in a 'dog friendly' room but it was not a room I would want to spend a lot of time in.
