Great location, fantastic food and good service.

Olde world charm, good service and an amazing part of the world. Lovely evening meals after a stroll through the wonders of the Northumbrian Coast. History, charm, friendly locals, great food and a fine drop of ale. Wow!

A mid week break

Andrea W, Skipton, England, United Kingdom
We decided to have a few days break back at one of our favourite's. I have reviewed this hotel before but since we were last there they have done a refurbishment in the lounge area. They have knocked both lounges through and created one large room with a central fire place. It is all decorated in the latest colour scheme of light grey. It really is rather well done. We had room 4 this time which was on the small side but quite adequate and comfortable. some of the same staff were still there and all of them were very welcoming. I am Gluten free and they had no trouble accommodating me. We really had a wonderful time and will be back as soon as we can, to this lovely family run hotel.

Beautiful village location

Sue K, Mombasa, Kenya
Situated a 10 minute walk from a beautiful sandy beach, the hotel is a bit deceiving as it is much bigger than I first thought! Our twin room was at the front with a view of the garden over the road, fully equipped as was the bathroom with both bath and shower. Breakfast was very good with fruits, cereal and cooked on offer. The staff were all very helpful. Both nights we booked to have dinner in the restaurant - lots of choice and all delicious, be warned enormous portions so work up an appetite.

Don't trust that this hotel will honour your confirmed booking

pstevens45, Chesterfield, United Kingdom
Deposit taken and booking confirmation received 5 weeks before we arrived. On arrival, we were informed that the room had been double booked and no other suitable room was available. Human error was blamed and apologies given. Human error happens but it was the customer care afterwards that made the experience even worse. The hotel rang around to find alternative accommodation. This proved to be a self catering ground floor flat that was surrounded by dustbins and garages, several miles away from where we had wanted to be. Compensation? None! Appeared to think that giving us our deposit back in cash was sufficient

Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel replied: Dear pstevens45 The situation was certainly unfortunate but not quite as you describe. There was an error on our part with your booking which meant that we had a double room booked for you rather that a twin. As you declined the double room we then spent a considerable amount of time searching for an alternative for you. As the area was very busy there was not a great deal available anywhere. We found you the best alternative we could. Obviously we were not made aware of the bins when we booked it. When you decided to take the accommodation we refunded the £100 deposit and provided you with £100 in cash as compensation. Given that our only failing was to offer a double instead of a twin room I do not believe that £100 cash compensation IN ADDITION to the return of your deposit is anything less than generous. Anyone reading this can rest assured that our booking system is very efficient. A small error was made by a new member of staff but I believe that the matter was dealt with properly. This review is unfair and largely inaccurate and should be removed.

Lovely short break

Nick H, Wakefield, United Kingdom
We stayed at the start of the month for three nights. It was busy so we had to have a different room every night; the hotel staff moved our luggage for us so no problem. All the rooms were a decent size with en suite facilities. There is a comfortable lounge area, a bar and dining room and the hotel is dog friendly. The food, I have to say, was very good. We stayed breakfast and evening meal and every meal was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is parking right outside the hotel and the centre of Embleton is a beautiful spot - they could use it for a scene in a Miss Marple mystery! When the silencer on our car went the man at JR Grieves' garage (Lenny?) ordered the part for us and fixed it inside 24 hours. Everything about our holiday was good, even the weather smiled on us. This is a beautiful part of the world to visit and if you do decide to come, the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel would be a good place to stay.
