Guests can enjoy a stay in one of the newly refurbished en-suite bedrooms in the hostel or in one of the traditional and distinctive Shepherd's Huts- which capture the true spirit of the Northumbrian countryside. A former Land Army Girls' hostel, the building is accessible throughout for all ages and abilities and located in extensive well maintained grounds rich in wildlife.

A welcome place to stay after a rainy day hiking

Richard K,
The hostel in Wooler is nothing much to look at, but the place has a very interesting history, the accommodations are completely adequate, the breakfast was large, and the staff are very interesting (and they say that Geordies speak English, but we're not so sure! :-) And while in Wooler, go to the #1 Hotel and Wine Lounge for a drink.,.. a wonderful gentleman and his large dog own it (he said it was his retirement project).

We stayed in a 3 person Shepherds Hut - double bed, and single over the top as a bunk. This was quite OK for our short visit. A heater in the room if you need it, electric lights. Toilet/shower a hop skip and jump away at the corner of the main building. The main hostel room - only one - is a lounge cum dining room adjacent to the smallish well-equipped members kitchen. We walked down to the village centre for our evening meal - beware that some of the places are very popular and booked up. An early morning run along the tacks and out into the hills was refreshing - very quickly you are into open moor side/woodland/sheep fields. The Shepherds huts are tucked around the back - about 4 of them together. The over hanging trees does make this a bit of a dull area.

Good value.

Our first visit to YHA Wooler and stayed in the shepherds hut. something a bit different! it was good value for money and although we didn't have the grandchildren with us I'm sure they would have preferred this to staying indoors. We had breakfast in the hostel which was plentiful. well worth what we paid for it. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Quirky accommodation in historical setting. Beautiful little find.

Accommodation is an adapted land army base from WW2. Steeped in history and nicely located for trips across Northumberland. Used as base for Seahouses and Lindisfarne. Information regards previous history located within building. Large property and has own car park / grounds. Large kitchen and communal area. Easy to self cater. Enjoyed breakfasts each day but ate out and cooked self within kitchen.showers were nice and hot. Whole place was clean and tidy. Local Coop useful for necessities. There are local pubs but did not use on this occasion. Rooms were simple but comfortable. Beds were comfortable. All in all a rather cute find.

Basic but just the job

Stayed here for our first night on the Sandstone Way and were so exhausted we slept well, despite the sheet sleeping bags. Room was small but with just two of us and not much stuff was fine. Ensuite with great hot shower an added bonus. Loved the Land Girl history of the building and enjoyed the breakfast.
