Overview

Visitors to Corbridge Roman Town can walk along the main street of this Roman garrison town, flanked by the remains of granaries, a fountain house, markets, workshops and temples.

Astride the intersection of Roman Dere Street and Stanegate, Corbridge was initially the site of a series of important forts. But after Hadrian's Wall was fully commissioned it developed into a prosperous town, a tempting leave-centre for off-duty Wall garrisons.

Today, you can still walk through the town's streets and experience a time-capsule of Roman life. You can also discover Roman armour and trinkets uncovered with the Corbridge Hoard at the museum. The Hoard was one of the most significant finds in Roman history, providing us with a fascinating insight into the life of a soldier on the Wall. The museum is also home to the Corbridge Collection, the largest of the Hadrian's Walls collections.

Amazing

Michelle B,
A fine example of roman life you can even walk on a roman street. The site is huge one of the best roman sites I've seen wasn't on our to do list, so glad we did. Also allows dogs on site, our dog loved it

Corbridge Roman Town

Not as extensive as a lot of Roman sites in Northumberland, but still worth a visit. However, we were glad to be EH members, as the entrance fee seemed a lot for the size of the place. Informative exhibition in the visitors centre, with many of the excavated finds on display. Other half took advantage of the audio tour, which he said was great. Can be done in less than an hour, so maybe a good one tovisit on a day you're in the area anyway.

Worth a visit especially if you have a membership

The excavations are not very extensive but it is still worth a visit. The town is really interesting and full of history. The boards give an interesting story but there is also an audio guide to add some more information. The site is small but has a lot packed into it.

For history buffs!

Small market town, steeped in local history. Lots to explore. Some unique shops to browse. A profusion of cafes to relax in and enjoy afternoon tea. A very nice location for a couple of hours.

To expensive

matthew h, Peterborough
Not much to write about other than trying to charge over £7 per adult is disgraceful. We were not the only couple that got straight back into the car, after being put off by the price!!! Maybe you should reconsider the cost so more people would be inclined to pay
