Dubbed “The River Cottage of the North” by Luxe magazine (2013), and renowned as the place to find the traditional tastes of Hadrian’s Wall country, Vallum is a unique and growing community of artisans whose produce is enjoyed by visitors from all over the country.
Vallum is home to a Restaurant & private-dining Chef's Room, a Farm Shop & Ice Cream Parlour and the multi-award-winning Vallum Tea Room. New last year - The Paddock Marquee - is a large marquee in a barn, perfect to hire for larger events and for hosting Vallum Country Weddings (See more details below).
The Roman auxiliaries who lived here 2,000 years ago would recognise the work of our artisan producers and the changing seasons of our spectacular countryside, as our visitors do today.
We hope that they, like you, would also enjoy our Great Taste Award-winning ice cream, the heritage vegetables from the Vallum Kitchen Garden and the bread and patisserie from the Vallum bakery.
Visitors of all ages enjoy our wildlife walks, the outdoor play paddock, and Vallum’s food and produce events and workshops. And we enjoy showing visitors how far we’ve come since we opened the Vallum Tea Room in 2005. Since then, we’ve restored the farm's old milking sheds to create our restaurant, function space The Chef's Room and shop, our new bakery, ice cream laboratory and workshop spaces.
We look forward to welcoming you to Vallum to enjoy the many tastes, sights and sounds of Hadrian's Wall country.

We were fortunate enough to live down the road and discovered this fantastic place. The restaurant has stunning views over the countryside and is situated on the farm.. it has a lovely part out the back that does ice creams, perfect and chilled in summer! Food is beautiful, not unreasonably priced either. Plenty of choice if you don't eat meat (I'm not vegetarian but I'm not huge on meat!) Do a beautiful Sunday dinner too :)
Vallum Farm replied: Hello beccanat, Many thanks for such a lovely review following your visit to Vallum Restaurant and Chef's Room. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your visit to Vallum Farm! It is great to hear that you enjoyed our food. Our chefs put so much time into sourcing local produce as well as growing and picking vegetables straight from our kitchen garden. We feel it is very important to offer a good choice for guests' dietary requirements or preferences, so thank you again for your kind comments. I look forward to seeing you back at Vallum in the near future!
Can't fault it!

Went for Sunday lunch today as it had been recommended to us and isnt far from where we live in Hexham. Lovely drive out, great, quick service always with a smile, and absolutely incredible food. I had the hot smoked salmon starter which looked and tasted beautiful, the beef roast dinner was delicious - the roasties were so nice & the veg was much nicer than I expected. The sticky toffee pudding was gorgeous too! We had two starters, two mains, two puddings and two soft drinks - £55! A brilliant price for such a high standard of food.
Vallum Farm replied: Hello northumbrianrebecca, Thank you very much for your kind review of Vallum Restaurant and Chef's Room. It is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the food so much! I am very happy that the service was well received and that you found us good value for money. I hope to see you back at Vallum again soon!

We ordered our meal and as everything is freshly made it took a long time for our food to arrive. For what we ate I thought it was very expensive, don't think I will rush to go back, which is a shame as they have a lovely outside play area.
Vallum Farm replied: Hi AliJ29, This review has been posted to the wrong business.
Perfect Sunday Roast
5 of us went for our Sunday lunch, the youngest in the group was 5, the eldest in their 70s. Our food was superb, great attentive service, huge portions, lovely tasting relaxed dining. We couldn't find any faults and at £15.50 for 2 courses, represents excellent value for money. The views are wonderful, the puddings were absolutely superb, even a request for a side portion of custard with lemon meringue pie (dont ask!!!) was organised without fuss. The staff were smiley and helpful. The quality of the meat was first class. Vallum take a bow, this was a wonderful family Sunday lunch. We will definitely be back and tell our friends you are definitely worth a visit. Thank you.
Vallum Farm replied: Hello Crispindoodle, I am humbled to read such a kind and glowing review of our restaurant. It means so much to the team and I to hear that we are getting things right. We all strive hard to achieve consistent high standards so to learn that food, views and service were superb is wonderful. We have recently had to increase our pricing slightly after holding off as long as possible (over 2 years) due to supplier costs etc. We are confident our menu still offers excellent value for money. I very much hope to see you all back at Vallum soon and thank you very much for spreading the word to your friends!
We went to Vallum Farm to celebrate our daughter's engagement when her boyfriend proposed to her on the Kielder bridge. The food was superb and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. As many people have already said here, the brownie with vanilla ice cream was heavenly. We are definitely coming back here.
Vallum Farm replied: Hello Tachyphoenix, Thank you so much for reviewing Vallum Restaurant and Chef's Room. Your kind comments are very much appreciated. I will pass on your review to the staff in our next team meeting. They will be very happy to hear that we have satisfied customers and that we provided an enjoyable engagement celebration for you! I hope to see you back at Vallum in the near future! Many thanks.
