Dubbed “The River Cottage of the North” by Luxe magazine (2013), and renowned as the place to find the traditional tastes of Hadrian’s Wall country, Vallum is a unique and growing community of artisans whose produce is enjoyed by visitors from all over the country.
Vallum is home to a Restaurant & private-dining Chef's Room, a Farm Shop & Ice Cream Parlour and the multi-award-winning Vallum Tea Room. New last year - The Paddock Marquee - is a large marquee in a barn, perfect to hire for larger events and for hosting Vallum Country Weddings (See more details below).
The Roman auxiliaries who lived here 2,000 years ago would recognise the work of our artisan producers and the changing seasons of our spectacular countryside, as our visitors do today.
We hope that they, like you, would also enjoy our Great Taste Award-winning ice cream, the heritage vegetables from the Vallum Kitchen Garden and the bread and patisserie from the Vallum bakery.
Visitors of all ages enjoy our wildlife walks, the outdoor play paddock, and Vallum’s food and produce events and workshops. And we enjoy showing visitors how far we’ve come since we opened the Vallum Tea Room in 2005. Since then, we’ve restored the farm's old milking sheds to create our restaurant, function space The Chef's Room and shop, our new bakery, ice cream laboratory and workshop spaces.

VALLUM COUNTRY WEDDINGS
Weddings at Vallum Farm are relaxed and unique, set in the magical countryside just a few miles from the city.
We offer the romantic feel of a country wedding with the convenience and cost effectiveness of a bespoke venue in breathtaking Hadrian’s Wall Country just eight miles west of Newcastle.
We have a full wedding license so you can even exchange your vows with us!
Our marquee has views of the spectacular Northumbrian countryside and our flourishing kitchen garden. As it is set up inside our barn, we can host weddings all year round for parties of up to 150 in the marquee.
For smaller weddings we have our beautiful Chef’s Room with its sumptuous furnishings and roaring log fire. This room is suitable for a wedding party of up to 30 guests.
Our venue hire fee, which includes everything you need for your country wedding at Vallum Farm including bales, barrels and a fire pit with logs. Hire charges depend which of our venues you choose, the day of the week and the month of the year. All you have to do then is choose your food and drinks and plan the fun bits like flowers, dresses and music!
Food is of course our passion! We use produce from our own artisans on site, our kitchen garden and nearby local producers. Working with the Vallum team you can design the perfect menu. As we make our own breads, pies, cakes and of course ice cream, there is lots of opportunity to create bespoke items eg. Design your own original wedding ice cream and make it yourself before the big day in Vallum’s Little Dairy.

Great Home Cooked Flavour
Sunday lunch was great today at the Vallum and the food was delicious. It all tasted just like it was home cooked. The beef was tender and the roast spuds and Yorkshires were amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely a return for more

We went here for a birthday meal. It was lovely. Amazing food! Great service if a bit slow as it seemed being in the other room you're forgotten about a little bit. I would definitely come back! Such a wonderful place.

We recently had a two week spell where we were short staffed but that has since been resolved so thank you for your patience. Came yesterday for birthday Sunday lunch , on arrival was seen to very quickly and seated straight away .the waiter came and took our order very quickly as well but it took 20 mins to get our starter which was ham hock which is served cold and it was delicious and worth the wait !then it took another 30mins for Sunday lunch to arrive again I could not fault it the beef was fantastic, I would return it was our first time here . Think more staff is needed it wasn't very busy when we were in I was never ask if I wanted another drink did try and get the attention of the waitress .we were going to have desert but took so long to clear the table decided just to pay and go we did however get ice and cake from the ice parlour which was fantastic luckily I had cash because card machine was out of order and would have to pay at tea rooms . I hope the feed back makes a difference because food was fantastic just staff maybe more staff would help

My sincere apologies that you waited too long for you food and that you felt the service was slow. This isn't a complaint that we have had before however, we did have two weeks recently where we were short staffed. This is of course not an excuse, as there should never be a drop in service efficiency. It is very pleasing to hear that you enjoyed you meal. Five family members went for Sunday lunch yesterday- our first visit- and we had an excellent meal. Between us, we had pork, beef and chicken, and each of us thoroughly enjoyed the meal- the meat was perfectly cooked, and there was a very interesting selection of vegetables which complimented the meat. The desserts were again excellent, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful! It was a 35 minute drive, but we all agreed that it won't be our last visit!

Have eaten here several times now and it never disappoints. Service is always excellent, relaxed, friendly and attentive. The Sunday Lunch is delicious and it's great to go somewhere where the veg is treat with just as much respect as the meat. This is something that I've heard many people comment on with regards to the Sunday Roast. Definitely recommend. It's in a great location too, not too far from Newcastle, about a 10 - 15min drive but far enough out that you can enjoy spectacular views of Northumberland.

We try to utilise our kitchen garden as much as possible to ensure freshness and seasonality on the plate.
