Set in mature gardens, Tillmouth Old School was built in 1867. Closing in 1965, it was then sympathetically converted into a private dwelling that the Hodgson family have made into their home.

Offering two spacious suites, Tillmouth (King) and Podmore (double), both are equipped to a high standard with many little extras to make your stay special. Breakfasts are made from locally sourced produce such as Craster kippers, Bamburgh bangers, Chainbridge honey, free range eggs and homemade preserves. Special diets are no problem, just mention when booking.

For those on a cycling holiday, we have a secure lock-up for your bicycles, and for those who prefer to stay on two feet we can provide guided walks upon request.

Upon arrival there is complimentary afternoon tea with home baking and preserves. We, as Northumbrians, are passionate about our heritage and look forward to sharing it with you.

Outstanding place

Claire T,
Just spent 2 nights here with my partner, the hosts are so welcoming, pleasant, knowledge and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. They make your stay very personal to you and will go out of they re way to ensure you have a wonderful stay. They have vast knowledge of the area including placed to visit/eat and have also provided menus for local places, they have two rooms and a lovely sitting room with open fire, the room we stayed in (downstairs) was spacious, lovely and clean and well presented, large bathroom with bath and shower, Judith (the host) makes sure you are welcomed with little snacks in the room including fresh fruit & also offered tea and scones when we arrived, wonderful place for the cost and would recommend to anyone especially if looking for somewhere so quiet and peaceful even for the younger person it's a lovely place to relax and chill in the surroundings we will definitely be back again thank you Judith & Noel 😀

2 night mini-break

Just returned from a 2-night stay at Judith and Noel's beautiful home. The Old School House is in a beautiful rural location and is very conveniently situated for exploring the beautiful Northumberland coast. Judith and Noel were truly excellent hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them, from cooking a delicious breakfast, giving us recommendations and maps for things to see and do in the local area, or giving us a lift to the pub in the evening (it's a very secluded spot)! We had such a lovely time and we would highly recommend a stay at their B&B.

A Unique Place To Stay

As the name suggests the stay was in a converted school House. The house retained it's School House Ethos but had been converted to give an interesting, comfortable and cozy atmosphere whilst our bedroom and bathroom / shower were huge by modern standards. We were met by the Landlady (Judith) who was very welcoming and made us comfortable in the lounge with tea and scones. In the bedroom there was everything one could ask for and then more (including tea, biscuits, a box with cake and chocolates). Although set in a very rural location, there were restaurants within easy reach (a hotel within walking distance) but we elected to drive to a local pub about 3-miles away (also excellent). Unfortunately we were only booked in for one night so couldn't take advantage of the local walks. We would love to return for a longer stay.

How lovely

What an excellent place, nothing was too much trouble , the hosts are second to non and that wonderful breakfast in the morning wow , the room is so lovely relaxing and a perfect place to sleep we will be back again 😊

Faultless and fabulous

We've just returned from the loveliest weekend spent with warm, friendly Judith and Noel in their gorgeous home, where we felt we were staying with wonderfully informative friends rather than as paying guests. Along with the other couple staying, we were even invited to join them at a local village charity ceilidh - an absolutely hilarious evening!! It feels impossible to add anything to the superlatives already used in previous reviews...Everything is just perfect and leaves you feeling cherished, warm and tingly! It isn't just Judith and Noel's immense local knowledge and helpful advice...or the immaculately clean rooms with their lovely extras (fruit, chocolates, home-baked cakes, luxurious bathroom toiletries)..it's actually all about the inclusive atmosphere created by the hosts themselves, that makes The Old School so unforgettable. We simply can't recommend it highly enough and can't wait to return.
