First-rate B & B

Geri T, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom
From the moment we arrived for a 5-night stay with friends, we were so well looked after and made to feel so welcome by Mary and Ian. Spacious and well-appointed rooms, in an impressive "Old Manse", located at the edge of Chatton village. Wide-ranging choice at breakfast and an incredible array of marmalades and jams. Then in the evening just a 300 metre walk to the Percy Arms for tasty meals. Many Northumberland attractions within easy driving distance including, Cragside, Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick. It was also useful to have access to the village shop. We also enjoyed the use of a comfortable lounge in the evenings and Wi-Fi access appreciated. Set it glorious countryside, we came away very happy with the experience and be happy to go there again.

The Old Manse replied: Glad that all four had a good time and we were able to satisfy your needs.

Fantastic place to stay - highly recommended

We stayed for one night at the beginning of October. For us, this was the perfect place to stay. The location is ideal for exploring this beautiful area and the accomodation I can't praise highly enough. Mary and Ian were excellent hosts and couldn't be more helpful. This is a lovely old house where you feel so comfy and at home. Our room was delightful with everything you could possibly wish for, including lovely views. There is a real focus on detail here with lots of little touches that are unexpected but really thoughtful. We loved it and can't wait to return for a longer stay.

Wonderful - a real 'home from home'.

John O,
We have just returned from four nights at this wonderful b and b. Firstly, the hosts:- Mary and Ian were excellent hosts, coffee and cake on arrival, nothing was too much trouble. They both had a huge amount of local knowledge, backed up with loads of brochures and leaflets for things to do. And they were such warm human beings as well, full of chat and bonhomie without being intrusive. Secondly, the room :- we were in the College room, big enough for a large bed, two chairs, a desk and plenty of storage space. The room was absolutely spotless, and the bed was very comfortable indeed. Thirdly, the food :- the breakfasts were well cooked and plentiful, with lots of choice. Mary was always on hand to offer more coffee and toast if needed, and the warm social atmosphere with the other guests was great, not like some establishments were everyone sits at the table in total silence !! So, in conclusion, this was a wonderful find for us, and I don't think that anyone could find fault with the accommodation or the hosts. Interestingly, all the other guests that we met had stayed before to The Old Manse, which speaks volumes in itself. Overall, a wonderful stay and we will book again when we are next in the area.

The Old Manse replied: Looking forward to you both returning one day when you will be one of "the other guests that we met had stayed before to The Old Manse".

Wonderful place to stay, excellent location, wonderful hosts

The Old Manse is very well placed to go to all the favourite spots in the area, Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Seahouses etc. On arrival we were greeted by Ian & Mary, who immediately offered tea & cakes. We stayed in the Ingram room, part of which used to be the old stable. We had a private entrance to our room, and also our own lounge, as well as the use of the main guest lounge & conservatory. The breakfasts were superb, everyone with any dietary requirement beautifully catered for. Both evenings we walked 200 yards up the road to the local pub, which does really good food, with enormous portions. Mary very kindly booked for us on the first night to make sure we could get in. Not only that she also booked our boat trip round the Farne Islands for the next day, even lending me her binoculars for the trip. Getting soaked at Lindisfarne our jackets were also dried for us ready for the next day. Two nights was much to short a stay, but we would certainly go back.

The Old Manse replied: We're glad you enjoyed your stay and we were able to assist you with that. Unfortnately I can do nothing about the weather (which is not always bad - we do get sunny days here too) but glad we were able to dry you out afterwards.

A wonderful place to stay.

The Old Manse is simply a truly wonderful place to stay and if ever you are thinking of taking a trip to this part of the world then you really should just head for this fabulous B and B. It is that good. On arrival there is a really warm welcome with a hot drink and home baked goodies. Our room was large, had a four poster bed, a fridge with fresh milk and chocolate. There was a variety of teas and coffees and good quality biscuits. The ensuite had everything you could need, a bath, a shower and super dressing gowns. Not surprisingly we slept well. Breakfast was great, with lots of choice including the local speciality of floddie and home made sausages. Perhaps the main attraction however of this wonderful B and B is the outstanding hosting of the owners. They are interested caring and fun. They offer lots of local knowledge to help you get the best out of your stay and do all they can to make you feel at home. They will book local restaurants for you, provide guide books, plan your days out for you and generally make you feel that they love having you around. We love travelling and visiting new places and rarely ever return to somewhere we have stayed, but in this case we'll definitely return to the Old Manse. It is that good.

The Old Manse replied: Thanks for your kind review. We do try to be ambassodors for this wonderful area and are pleased to do everything to make your stay a memorble one so that you want to come back - we came back and are still here.
