Total luxury

Katherine W,
We stayed just one night and it was fabulous. Our hosts have gone to a great deal of trouble to ensure that you feel absolutely pampered with the finest quality experience. Very comfortable bed, amazing breakfast. Just be sure to note that they don't take credit or debit cards!

The Old Manse replied: Very pleased that you were able to stay with us, on the way to Scotland, on your grand tour of Britain.

Like being at home but in someone else's house!

Neal H, Yarm, United Kingdom
The earlier excellent reviews sum up the Old Manse perfectly. From arriving and Ian coming out to take our luggage and Mary providing fresh coffee and scones, this place exceeded all expectations. The room was terrific with views to two sides and had an exceelent bathroom. Breakfast on both days was equally as impressive - even Ian's homemade baked beans! The availabililty of the conservatory and lounge at all times was another nice touch, as was the comprehensive amount of teas in the conservatory and the fresh milk in the room 'fridge. It was my wife's birthday and Mary had put fresh flowers and a card in the room for our arrival - very thoughful. Mary's is obviously enthused about living locally and had lots of good advice on where to go - even though the weather was average to say the least. We ate at the Percy Arms just a short walk away - very good, see review for that too. On the Saturday we had been out most of the day and on our return Mary offered coffee and cake, plus somewhere to dry any wet things - attention to detail is second to none. In short, an excellent place with superb hosts; we'll definitely go again.

The Old Manse replied: You're too kind to suggest the weather was average - that weekend was unusually diabolical (we normally have much better weather than people give us credit for living so far north). Glad it didn't dampen your spirits and you had a good weekend.

Excellent B&B

Lflm1211, Stockton-on-Tees, United Kingdom
My boyfriend and I stayed for one night whilst we were visiting Alnwick Gardens Restaurant. Mary and Ian were great hosts!! Very welcoming and friendly. The room was spotless and had everything you could need from a B and B including robes and slippers, and the bed was very comfortable! Breakfast was excellent and I would definitely recommend the full English. Thank you for the lovely night!

The Old Manse replied: I was a pleasure to welcome you to the Old Manse and glad you enjoyed you stay. Don't forget it works out cheaper if you book direct (not through booking.com) and stay for more than one night.

Another enjoyable visit

CheshireCat42, Macclesfield, United Kingdom
It was good to try facilities in the area out of season. Mary and Ian are really good hosts-we stayed in the Ingram Suite and this had additional Christmas decorations. This suite is on the ground floor, very spacious. The bathroom has been improved since we came last time, having had a big shower cubicle installed. Towelling bathrobes and fresh coffee/tea/cakes are nice touches. Breakfasts are served in the bright conservatory with views of the countryside and birds, which adds to the ambience. Note- Wifi access is better in the lounge area

The Old Manse replied: Lovely to see you both again. I'm afraid the Victorians didn't give WiFi reception much of a thought when the Ingram Suite was originally built as a stable block in 1874.

Visiting Chatton

HansEric W, Karlskoga, Sweden
Perfect service and very nice owners. Very good rooms with fantastic view. The breakfast was excellant, especially the "floddies". Only a short way to Alnwick. The wild cows close to Chillingham castle are only a few miles away.

The Old Manse replied: Glad you agree that we are perfectly located twixt the sea, the hills and the towns. The Chillingham Wild Cattle are always a worth a visit although, being totally wild, you need a guide to find them.
