Old Historical Farmhouse

og84, Los Angeles, California
You can talk with the many sheep. Visit the nearby Flodden Battlefield. Enjoy the landscape. Go hiking. Or just relax. The farm house and adjoining buildings sit a little removed from the town but close enough to walk. The rooms were somewhat small and you must watch your head because of low lying beams. There is no elevator, so its best if you don't have a lot of luggage or heavy luggage. Plenty of free parking. The best aspect, in our opinion, was the food. The menu is limited, but what they offer is very well prepared and presented. You absolutely want to have dinner here. The food was fresh, delicious and the wait staff were very good and attentive. Breakfast was very good as well. This is a good place to relax and unwind. Its also rather close to Lindisfarne Abbey (on the coast) and a number of other historical sites including Smailholm Tower and Kelso Abbey (to the west). Etal Castle is really close, to the north. Although the farm sits next to the A697, the location is amazing quiet (in part because this road does not actually carry all that much traffic and at night, very little). Overall, we were very impressed. .

Not as advertised

3ema5,
The host was lovely and staff friendly. Breakfast was very good although the fresh fruit had run out before we arrived in the dining room. Situated in a lovely area of the countryside. However the room was very disappointing and not what we were expecting. I had particularly chosen the coach house because of the delightful room photographs. Our room (room 1) was very tired, the bathroom was an 70/80's mustard coloured suite with huge grab rails, a secondary shower fitting with very weak water supply, no window blind. The 3 main windows of no. 1 had very ill fitting secondary double glazing and it was very difficult to open them. Plywood doors are not a good look and really let the room down. Even the bed was a let down. It was hard, poor quality and most uncomfortable. This break could have been so nice but the room was not as advertised and certainly not worth the £90 a night. The host was not available when we left to speak to. Im sure other rooms were lovely but we left very disappointed and cannot recommemd the Coach House unless warning people off Room 1.

Perfect

RJA60, Cranbrook, United Kingdom
It's always a risk going back somewhere you last stayed nearly 20 years ago - but I'm delighted to report that the Coach House is still a really lovely place to stay. The welcome was so warm - home-made cakes in the comfortable sitting room, a ridiculously reasonable honesty bar, fresh pot of tea, discussion about what we'd like for dinner - it couldn't have been better. Our rooms were really comfortable and out of all the places we stayed on our road-trip, the Coach House was the only one that provided a jug of fresh milk for early-morning tea without us having to specially request it: full marks! We also had an evening meal on both nights, which was delicious both times and again very reasonable priced. Highly recommended. I hope it won't be another 20 years before we go back.

Excellent Location and Accommodations

YANKEEBRIT, OHIO
We occupied 5 rooms for 4 nights for a family birthday and absolutely loved this place. It's on a main road but not noisy at all. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, bathrooms are not luxury but everything you need. Lovely residents lounge with complementary afternoon tea and cakes and a well-equipped (and well used by our group!) honour bar. Breakfast was excellent. A great spot for exploring Northumberland. The back garden overlooks a field of black sheep, hens and a very energetic dog, Penny.

Fabulous

We have just returned home to Spain from a short stay in this wonderful character property where everyone made us welcome and nothing was too much trouble to make sure we had a pleasant stay. Great food and comfortable accommodation. We hope to have the opportunity to stay there again.
