Overview

We are situated between Alnwick and Berwick-upon-Tweed and just 2 minutes off the A1. Our location is perfectly located to explore the extensive and diverse range of attractions Northumberland has to offer.

There is private off-street parking plus secure storage for cyclists and motorcyclists including drying facilities and helmet storage. In the warm summer months, guests are very welcome to relax in the secluded garden, overlooking the open countryside.

Our three rooms are appointed to a high standard with luxury bedding, bathrobes and toiletries. Our accommodation has been sympathetically re-decorated and furnished to reflect the period age of the building, whilst providing up-to-date facilities for the discerning traveller. All rooms are named after well known North Northumberland lighthouses.

Berwick (new for 2017) is a superior double, located on the ground floor.  It has an en-suite shower room, under stairs cupboard/wardrobe with a mini-fridge.  It has the original high ceiling and wooden shutters.

Coquet is a luxury double with a king-size bed with two comfy chairs, hanging rack for clothes and a large en-suite shower room. Coquet has splendid views across the surrounding countryside.

Longstone is a superior twin-bedded room, elegantly decorated and furnished with two chairs, a console table and two large sash windows overlooking St Mary's Church. It retains the Victorian plaster cornicing.

All bedrooms have en-suite facilities and benefit from:

·              Nespresso coffee machines

·              Full hospitality tray with a selection of teas from Ringtons

·              Homemade produce on arrival

·              Hairdryer

·              USB socket points

·              Heated towel rails

·              Flat screen Smart televisions with Freeview channels

·              Free high speed WiFi

Our award winning breakfasts are cooked-to-order, using quality, local produce for our menu.  We are also members of the `Produced in Northumberland’ scheme. Our muesli, marmalade and jam is home-made on the premises and the breakfast menu choices can be viewed on our website.  Breakfast is served at a large communal table, with a wood burning stove, lit in the colder months.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We do cater for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan diets but we MUST be informed about this when booking with us and PRIOR to arrival in order for us to obtain any necessary ingredients.

PLEASE NOTE: We, regrettably, cannot accommodate wheelchairs or mobility scooters at Post Office House.

Access information

Guest accommodation entrance for Post Office House is at the rear of the property. This is accessed via the gravelled driveway immediately to the left of the red post office outside the premises.  There are three car parking spaces, outlined with white identification lines.

Guest entrance is the door facing the car park.  One ground floor room and two rooms on the first floor, accessed by a wide staircase.

The ground floor room is suitable for those with walking difficulties but we cannot accommodate any form of wheelchair or mobility scooter at Post Office House. We are unable to alter door widths due to the historic fabric of the building.

Road directions

From A1 north, Belford is located 3 miles north of Purdy Lodge service station.  Take the B6349 signposted to Belford. Follow the road into the village, past the market cross and we are located opposite St Mary's Church. We are the tall Victorian building with the red post box outside and gold post horn sign on the outside.

From A1 south, Belford is approximately 5 miles south of Haggerston Castle. Take the turning for Detchant and Middleton on your right (old A1).  Belford is 2 miles along this route.  We are located at the bottom of North Bank with the red post box outside on the left hand side. Look out for the house with the huge chimney stack.

Public transport

We are lucky to have an excellent bus service in Belford, serving our small towns, villages, larger towns and cities, with services to Berwick, Alnwick, Morpeth and Newcastle.  The X18 travels a scenic route taking in spectacular views of Northumberland’s stunning coastline and quaint villages, whilst the more direct X15 will take you straight to either Berwick or Newcastle. The bus stop points; both north and south are within seconds of our front door.

5 star in every way

CazMarieH, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
A gem of a B&B! The owners put incredible care and attention into every aspect of their hospitality, striking the perfect balance between being attentive and being discreet. The rooms are furnished beautifully and incredibly clean and there are thoughtful touches throughout. We weren't hungry on arrival so a slice of cake and gluten free bar were left for us in the mini fridge the following day! The breakfasts are superb and my gluten free, vegetarian breakfast was easily the nicest I've had! A hot powerful shower, lovely toiletries, coffee maker, great selection of teas, a decanter of mead! Thank you Claire and Simon, we highly recommend!

Beautiful b&b with wonderful hosts and a 5 star breakfast. The rooms were tastefully decorated and their are no shortage of places to eat or grab a drink nearby. Couldn't fault the generous hospitality and warm welcome.

Excellent value. The newly-refurbished rooms offer every possible comfort and the breakfasts are outstanding. Claire and Simon are very attentive and keen to make your stay a memorable one. This is a lovely area, convenient for Bamburgh, Alnwick and the Borders.

Exceptional Service

Angie R, Norwich, United Kingdom
We stayed at The Post Office House B&B for 2 nights. The room was amazingly clean. Lots of attention to detail. I loved the Lindisfarne Mead left to try in the room.... Lovely! Other amenities in the room were very welcome eg: Coffee machine. The bed was very comfortable, and the linen was crisp & immaculately clean. The PO B&B was very close to SeaHouses & Berwick, easy to get to. Claire & Simon always willing to impart local knowledge and information about the area. The breakfast was delishious. I enjoyed the choice on the menu .. Homemade porridge, with ginger ! second to none! Salmon & Mackerel .... very spoilt !! We had a throughly good time. We felt very welcome, and would definatly stay again. .....Throughly excellent good value for money paid.

Post Office House Bed & Breakfast replied: Hello Angie - it was great to read your review, really lovely feedback, thank you. The ginger in the porridge was not something we have tried before, it was abit of an experiment but we are pleased you liked it! We like to put little treats in the rooms and the mead is certainly proving to be a hit with our guests. It was lovely to manage to get to have a chat with you both whilst you were here. We hope you had a lovely stay in Hexham after you left us, it was a pleasure to have you stay with us and do come to visit us again. Kind regards Claire and Simon

Couldn't wish for a warmer, friendlier welcome. Excellent room, tasteful furnishings, decorations and attention to every detail; with top notch breakfast and good selection too. Highly recommended and one of the best we have stayed at!
