Overview

We are situated between Alnwick and Berwick-upon-Tweed and just 2 minutes off the A1. Our location is perfectly located to explore the extensive and diverse range of attractions Northumberland has to offer.

There is private off-street parking plus secure storage for cyclists and motorcyclists including drying facilities and helmet storage. In the warm summer months, guests are very welcome to relax in the secluded garden, overlooking the open countryside.

Our three rooms are appointed to a high standard with luxury bedding, bathrobes and toiletries. Our accommodation has been sympathetically re-decorated and furnished to reflect the period age of the building, whilst providing up-to-date facilities for the discerning traveller. All rooms are named after well known North Northumberland lighthouses.

Berwick (new for 2017) is a luxury double, located on the ground floor.  It has an en-suite shower room, under stairs cupboard/wardrobe with a mini-fridge.  It has the original high ceiling and wooden shutters.

Coquet is a superior double with a king-size bed with two comfy chairs, hanging rack for clothes and a large en-suite shower room. Coquet has splendid views across the surrounding countryside.

Longstone is a superior twin-bedded room, elegantly decorated and furnished with two chairs, a console table and two large sash windows overlooking St Mary's Church. It retains the Victorian plaster cornicing.

All bedrooms have en-suite facilities and benefit from:

·              Nespresso coffee machines

·              Full hospitality tray with a selection of teas from Ringtons

·              Homemade produce on arrival

·              Hairdryer

·              USB socket points

·              Heated towel rails

·              Flat screen Smart televisions with Freeview channels

·              Free high speed WiFi

Our award winning breakfasts are cooked-to-order, using quality, local produce for our menu.  We are also members of the `Produced in Northumberland’ scheme. Our muesli, marmalade and jam is home-made on the premises and the breakfast menu choices can be viewed on our website.  Breakfast is served at a large communal table, with a wood burning stove which is lit in the colder months.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We do cater for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan diets but we MUST be informed about this when booking with us and PRIOR to arrival in order for us to obtain any necessary ingredients.

PLEASE NOTE: We, regrettably, cannot accommodate wheelchairs or mobility scooters at Post Office House.

Access information

Guest accommodation entrance for Post Office House is at the rear of the property. This is accessed via the gravelled driveway immediately to the left of the red post office outside the premises.  There are three car parking spaces, outlined with white identification lines.

Guest entrance is the door facing the car park.  One ground floor room and two rooms on the first floor, accessed by a wide staircase.

The ground floor room is suitable for those with walking difficulties but we cannot accommodate any form of wheelchair or mobility scooter at Post Office House. We are unable to alter door widths due to the historic fabric of the building.

Road directions

From A1 north, Belford is located 3 miles north of Purdy Lodge service station.  Take the B6349 signposted to Belford. Follow the road into the village, past the market cross and we are located opposite St Mary's Church. We are the tall Victorian building with the red post box outside and gold post horn sign on the outside.

From A1 south, Belford is approximately 5 miles south of Haggerston Castle. Take the turning for Detchant and Middleton on your right (old A1).  Belford is 2 miles along this route.  We are located at the bottom of North Bank with the red post box outside on the left hand side. Look out for the house with the huge chimney stack.

Public transport

We are lucky to have an excellent bus service in Belford, serving our small towns, villages, larger towns and cities, with services to Berwick, Alnwick, Morpeth and Newcastle.  The X18 travels a scenic route taking in spectacular views of Northumberland’s stunning coastline and quaint villages, whilst the more direct X15 will take you straight to either Berwick or Newcastle. The bus stop points; both north and south are within seconds of our front door.

Quality B & B with some nice touches

Malcolm W, Burton upon Trent, United Kingdom
Just returned from a couple of nights stay at the Old Post Office at Belford and would like to thank Claire and Simon for their hospitality. The place is tastefully decorated and very clean and tidy and a credit to them both. It's good to see people who go the extra mile with nice touches such as a bottle of local mead, home made ginger cake ,coffee machine and complementary slippers. The location is good for visiting both coast and country side. There is a pub and a hotel in Belford for evening meals , but we ate at the Castle in Bamburgh and can highly recommend the Haddock and Chips.

Post Office House Bed & Breakfast replied: You are very welcome, Malcolm W and thank you for this very complimentary feedback which is much appreciated. We have yet to try the Castle in Bamburgh and will be definitely sampling the haddock and chips! We hope you had a good journey back and look forward to seeing you both again sometime. With best wishes Claire & Simon

Excellent B&B

cajagoogoo2015, Aspatria, United Kingdom
Recently stayed 2 nights at this immaculate B&B. Simon and Claire were very welcoming and even offered home made ginger cake on our arrival. The rooms are very comfortable with lots of little extras including robes, slippers, tea and coffee making facilities and very nice toiletries in the bathroom. There was even a sample of Lindisfarne Mead! Lots of choice for breakfast, which was delicious, and used local produce, home made baked beans and jams. Great location too for exploring the beautiful coast of Northumberland. Highly recommended.

Post Office House Bed & Breakfast replied: What lovely feedback, cajagoogoo and it is always extremely helpful to us when guests give a breakdown on aspects of what made their stay special. We appreciate you taking the time in reviewing Post Office House and we are delighted you enjoyed everything. We like to soure as much local produce as possible in our breakfasts and try to make as much as we can. Glad you liked the local tipple of Mead! It was a pleasure to meet you all and hope to welcome you back sometime. With best wishes Claire and Simon

Warm and welcoming B&B

lizsS8753DH, Portsmouth, United Kingdom
Our hosts Claire and Simon were so helpful, suggesting interesting places to visit & good restaurants for our evening meals. Simon's delicious breakfasts using local produce including Craster kippers kept us going all day as we explored the coastal walks & castles. Claire kept our room spotlessly clean & we would discover little treats such as Easter eggs & Lindisfarne mead on our return to our bright & cosy room. This was our first visit to the Northumbrian Coast & we look forward to our return visit to this B&B so we can continue our discoveries.

Post Office House Bed & Breakfast replied: We are thrilled to read this super review, lizS8753DH and thank you. A number of guests also have commented about our breakfasts setting them up for the day and needing very little until eating again in the evening. We thought the mini Easter eggs would be a nice treat and the Mead is very popular! We are delighted you enjoyed your few days with us and we look forward to seeing you both again. With best wishes Simon and Claire
